My son, DH and I have 8,000 EVA miles each expiring in December. I have tried to ask EVA if that means the miles expire First In, First Out, , or if an activity would "refresh" all of the miles...can someone confirm? What I thought I understood from the Rep (though I didn't want to believe it) was that they expire sequentially, and no amount of activity (except redemption) would save the miles. Is this so?

On your statement (and their website), you can see how many miles expire each month. That's right, they expire and activity does not extend them.

You can transfer miles to others to use but they cannot combine miles from multiple accounts on awards. So, effectively, my understanding is that in cases like this, you really can't do much other than maybe ordering magazines.

Remember, it is not about you choosing them and them thanking you. It is about them doing you a favor by giving you miles :-(

The miles you earned in any particular month will expire three years later at the end of the same month. Not a lot of time. :(

From EVA

http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/club/Mileage_Rules/Mileage_Validity.htm

Mileage earned by traveling or partners will be retained for 36 months from travel date or partner's system apply date. For example, miles credited for flight date Sep.15, 2010 will expire on Sep.30, 2013. Earned mileage within its validity is redeemable. The expired mileage will be automatically cancelled without notice.

Yes, until recently it was FIVE years from the end of the same YEAR. Very nasty change to announce without much notice (there is a slight taper to the change).

I feel sorry that the good work done by the FAs, ground staff and others is somewhat let down by the bean counting oiks in HQ.
