“I wasn’t sure what I was looking at when [passenger] Hoden entered the scanner,” Fallopian explained. “He was wearing pleated trousers, which is a big problem; the pleats blur the image. Next month, passengers with pleated clothing will need to place their pants or skirts in the bins with their shoesso if you wear pleated pants or a skirt you will be asked to strip in the terminal so it can be xrayed huh?, belts, keys, cell phones, computers, jackets, vests, sweaters, ties, scarves and…well, I actually can’t remember the entire list. Anyway, I took a closer look at the screen and realized that the dark shadow in Mr. Hoden’s scrotal area wasn’t a distortion from the pleats or the machine image. I’m at UCLA med right now, and we’ve been studying testicular cancer. I knew right away that’s what I was dealing with here.”

I call B.S..

But if the scanner can detect testicular cancer then TSA is lying. Genital area blurred? Not so. Can't view in detail the genital area? Another lie.

Anyway, I call B.S..

Total BS. Testicular ca cannot be diagnosed without biopsy and histology.

There are many more likely causes for a testicular mass.

Certainly the satire-meter should twitch at "Fallopian said." ;) But on a serious note.

TSA has never said they blur the genital area in the nude-o-scope. They blur the face, that's all. Dave Barry wrote that his "groin" was blurred, probably due to moving while the image was taken. Some journalists have assumed that the genital area is blurred, presumably because it would seem a reasonable privacy measure to take. But every reputable version of the NoS image should a quite distinct genital area.
