US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Anyone in PHL tomorrow ??View Full Version : Anyone in PHL tomorrow ?? jms8090 Sep 6, 01, 10:54 pm I sure could use entry into USAirways club! I will be there around 12:30pm. Please let me know! CLTFlyer Sep 7, 01, 5:21 am Sorry - not in PHL then, but remember, if no one is able to get you in - and you really need to be there, you can purchase a one-say pass for $35 or 50 depending on if you want a one club pass (as in to just say the PHL club) or multiple club pass (allows access to say the club at LGA/EWR and PHL in the same day. Cadillac Sep 7, 01, 11:27 am Is it worth to pay the $35-50 for entrance to the club. What benefits does the club unless you are delayed and need to sleep? If the benefits are great, and you are not a Preferred status, could you use miles to gain membership to the club? Do people in the club get any personal benefits (i.e Has anyone got any free upgrades from someone at the club who just had an extra that was expiring and you were there at the right time?) CLTFlyer Sep 7, 01, 1:09 pm Whether or not it's worth it depends on the individual. It obviously has some value to jms8090 as he/she is looking to get in. It's worth whatever it's worth to you. I prefer the Club since it's quieter than waiting out at the gate, and I can get a drink and return calls if needed in some comfort. On the way back home, I use it to wait out my bags - since they always take forever at CLT. Given how crowded PHL can be - I think it would almost be a godsend. It's worth it for delays and layover after all. As for other benefits ... well, there is the supersecret superduper priority status for your bags, and the opportunity to fly the plane (only the new Airbuses), and ride out the landing in the flight deck jumpseat (just kidding there). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif You won't not receive an operational upgrade from the club staff, but if you need to be rebooked, or change a seat assignment, I'd rather do that with a calm Club rep than a harried gate agent who has been asked (for the 30th time) what the movie will be on this flight. And can't recall anyone just walking up to the desk going, "Darn, my upgrade certificate expires tomorrow, can you find someone to use it?" But one can dream. Can't remember if you can use miles for the Club (certainly not for a one day pass) - but do remember that you can get a club pass from Travelocity, if you're a certain level of member of a traveller club they have. pitflyer Sep 7, 01, 1:53 pm Priority Club also uses USAirways clubs. I believe you can buy a club membership with miles, too. I have gotten upgraded on an award ticket by a club agent who saw I was chairman's preferred. Same ticket on the other way I was refused an upgrade even though seats were available by a ticket agent. YMMV Cadillac Sep 7, 01, 2:41 pm Thanks for the replies!!! and CLTFlyer..thanks for the laughs. I figured it would be only worth the travelers that fly way more frequently than myself. I fly about once a month sometimes twice depending on visiting girlfriend/friends. Unforunately I can't take advantage of the "double bonus miles" or "preferred status challenge" since I don't fly enough or during the promotions. I flew 60,000 miles last year and I have yet to fly first class on USAir. I was hoping for some benefits, but I guess I just need to break down and buy the 4 upgrade certs for miles. CLTFlyer Sep 8, 01, 8:18 am cadillac: If you flew 60k on US alone - you'd be Gold - and have no real problems getting upgrades, not to mention the complimentary upgrades at every 10k. Since you're also from CLT, you ought to think about consolidating your travel for elite status purposes - it really is worth it (and see the "Is gold better than silver" thread too). Of course, merely buying 4 certs without having status won't help unless you're flying full fare coach. Hope that you at least signed up for the NC/Ga. double miles promotion - while you may not have gotten all you needed in that period - it sure does help.
