Just returned from LAX on the redeye and some different events occurred to LAX and back. On the AM LAX flight from CLT, the waiting area was empty which I assumed was due to late pax. However, 21 boarded FC and about 25 boarded coach. Big empty plane. As we are taxiing out, the captain comes on and says OPS says the weight balance is wrong and 5 of the coach pax in front must move all the way back because the plane will be out of balance for landing after the fuel is burned off. I never heard of this issue except when football teams board or on small planes.
On the redeye back, I check in at the USAIR Club and the guy in front is asking how many seats open in FC. Eleven is the reply and he upgrades using a systemwide which the attendent tries to talk him out saying do you need it to go to Europe prior to the expiration. I guess he did not have enough certs. This plane is pretty full and ultimately there are 21 in FC so that means another 5 pax upgraded at the gate. Seems to me that on the redeye I would upgrade ASAP.
On preboarding, I noticed that 2 of the guys in front of me have to search their luggage for tickets which I find interesting since I assume most in FC are business travelers and know to have their boarding passes out. Maybe too late at night.
Finally the FA recognizes me since the crew was on the AM flight and kids me about going right back. (I can't sleep the first night westbound so might as well do the redeye). She asked and served front to back westbound and back to front eastbound. Seems to me I have seen this before on this board. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
