Chairman's Preferred member's don't get Systemwide Upgrades like the other levels; we get Transatlantic upgrades.
Of course the best place to use one of these upgrades is transatlantic, but if you're not going across the pond, it's nice to be able to confirm a trip to Caribbean or the like in first using one of these.
Has any Chairman's Preferred been able to use a transatlantic upgrade to upgrade another route, such as to the Caribbean?
Just curious!

When I received the CP package a month or so ago, it came with certificates that say "Systemwide". But, if your's do say "Transatlantic", it makes sense since USAirways only flies in North America and to Europe, and as CP you automatically get upgraded to any destination within North America, including the Caribbean. So I think the only need for those certificates is to cross the Atlantic.

True, but in North America CP's on discount coach fares can only upgrade at seven days out, while systemwide upgrades can be used at the time of booking. So even if a CP could find no better use for them than, say, BOS-PIT, the upgrade could be cleared months out rather than just seven days out.
I'm not a CP, but I was under the impression that CP's got systemwides too (2 swu's + 2 companion upgrades) so naturally the news that they are called transatlantic upgrades is news to me. I'd guess they could be used anywhere, but the quickest and likely most accurate way to get an answer would just to dial CP reservations.

Huh?!?
Since you are a CP I seem to recall you should know this better than I, but as others have said I thought you guys got Systemwides too! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

All we get are 2 for ourselves and 2 companion certs to use if someone happens to be traveling with us.
The text on mine says:
<font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">
This certificate is valid for a one-way, one-class upgrade on US Airways to any destination systemwide.
</font>
Last years, as I recall, specifically said "transatlantic".

They are and have always been "systemwide" upgrades. They have never been called "transatlantic" upgrades, although most people use them for that purpose. But, to answer your question, you can use them on any route at any time.

I just happened to dig up my unused "complimentary transatlantic upgrade" and "transatlantic companion upgrade" from last year. We now get "one way systemwide upgrade" and a "one-way systemwide companion upgrade".
BTW, the "transatlantic upgrade" states that North America includes the Caribbean and it also states that it is valid from NA to Europe.
Regular CP upgrades includes the Caribbean since it is part of NA.

Just to clarify my idiocy -- I haven't used paper certs in so long I just assumed I got transatlantic upgrades like last year. I found out when I got home, open up my wife and my pile of 100 (no joking) unused certificates, that I also received 'Systemwides' this year.
Hence, my question is moot because I'm a moron. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Thanks for all the replies!

Biggs-
You're right-I just called my wife who pulled one that I had left over from last year and she said it did say "Transatlantic Upgrade." I certainly didn't recall that and thought they were always "Systemwide." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif My Bad.

Originally, CP's got System Wides, but was later switched to Transatlantic... I think it switched in 2001. My 2000 package contained system wide, but my 2001 package contained transatlantic.

Wrong! They are Transatlantic as stated on the certificate and not system wide.

USAirGreg: That's odd, because while I received transatlantic upgrades in 2000, I did receive system wides in 2001 (I later confirmed this).. are you sure you got transatlantic upgrades this year?

That is what mine says, but I also received a book of bogus ones as well. I was sent 4 of them all expiring within a few days, then a letter saying, oops, we messed up and here are your real ones... They say, Transatlantic on them and not system wide. I looked twice at them, because the original ones I got that expired in less than 30 days, said systemwide, but the new ones they sent me stated transatlantic.... Maybe mine are odd because of the mis-print on the original certs.

Greg-
Thanx, man, for clarifying this. I also received the 'bogus' Systemwides last year with the short expiration date, then got the replacements. I knew I remembered getting upgrades that said "systemwide" last year, but had forgotten the circumstances. The replacements did say 'transatlantic' for the first time.
