US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - New Chairman's Preferred Benefits?

Just got a call from a marketing guy at US headquarters in Arlington, VA offering me two tickets on the Club level to a Redskins or Ravens game this season "as one of USAir's most valued customers." He also asked if I was a Wizards fan and/or hockey fan and which of those tickets I would prefer when the seasons roll around. In conclusion, he stated that I could expect to receive "alot more perks and benefits in the coming year" as a Chairman's Preferred member since I have already requalified for 2002. Has anyone else gotten a call like this or received other perks (other than the normal stuff) recently?

I haven't heard a thing. No emails, no bonuses, no cards. I was wondering if they will renew the USAIRWAYS Club membership which I seem to remember one of the FT CPs got this year.

Maybe you are getting these perks since you are in US's backyard?

A question -- how much revenue do you think you've spent on USAirways? I think USAirways knows very well the difference between the $200 cross country mileage run Chairman's Preferred and the $1200 full Y fare 300 mile hop Chairman's Preferred..

To answer your question -- nothing -- nothing when I spent $50k in one year on USAirways, nothing when I spent $10k http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Are you sure you're not VaSquireFlyer in disguise? Up until now he's had a lock on private communications (only kidding Squire) from the company.

Although never experienced personally, a co-worker of mine got a crystal ball-thing (can't really explain it) for being a CP and either top "100" or "500" flyer with US, can't remember which.

I have never seen a perk that included game tickets! They must be really worried about the downturn in business travel!

Have no idea whether I got the call because I live in US' backyard, but I'll definitely take the tickets (and anything else they want to hand out!) I agree that US knows the difference between the guy who earns his status on $200 mileage runs across country and those who spend the big bucks on short notice full fare tickets. My travel is a combination of both, so I'm sure I'm not anywhere near the top of the revenue chain. (If I was, they'd give me free Club membership, which goes to the 2,500 CP members who generate the most revenue. The rest of us lowlings have to pay for ours!) But regardless of how I get there, the bottom line is that I get there! Consistently. I've been Preferred Plus/Gold Preferred or Chairman's Preferred since 1990 and up until now have gotten nothing out of the ordinary. So maybe I was due. Whatever the reason, I'm hoping that this is a sign that they're improving the program to recognize million mile status. The fact that they don't has always bugged me, especially since I just completed my second million (actual flight miles!)

It's about time they really put some teeth into that old slogan US Air begins with YOU!

romadaro-

Maybe US monitors this board and sees that you fly at the elite levels on other carriers and wants more revenue/loyalty. Based upon pitflyers statements, I think US finds me too cheap since I rarely have a full fare flight which is fine with me because about 40% comes out of my own pocket. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

That's really weird because I *got* a free Club membership. Last year my travel was mostly on Southwest style mileage runs -- ie across the country for $200 bucks, so I am pretty sure that I wasn't in the top 2500 -- or if I was, I know why USAirways in such dire straits!

Maybe they gave you the tickets to ease the oversight of not getting club membership?

If you got Club membership in a year in which you only spent $10K, you can't say that US has never given you anything http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif You were probably the last one on the cutoff list for free Club membership and I'm sure my name was right under yours! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

roma: You're right -- I thought/assumed that all Chairman's Preferred got the club membership. Didn't know it was the top 2500 (where did you get that number?)

Both my boss and I are CP and he got it and I didn't, so I called to find out why. I was told that they had to stop giving the benefit to all CP's when the ranks began to swell because it was overwhelming the Clubs. So they decided to give it only to the top 10% in terms of revenue. At the time, there were approximately 25,000 CP members. I'm sure that number has grown (or maybe decreased due to the downturn in the economy) since my call two years ago.

25,000 CPs?!

We can have a convention. I guess I will be paying for my own renewal but I did it for 6 years before I made CP and it is worth it.

I was also surprised at that number, but when you consider that there are 2-3 million DM members, I guess I shouldn't have been. That was also the year that the US pilots had threatened to strike and the airline gave double tier miles across the board on all flights for about 6 weeks, so a lot of former Silver and Gold folk made CP. The number probably dropped significantly last year, but they didn't change the rule on free Club membership BECAUSE I'M STILL PAYING!

Well, the only big extra benefits I've had this year were when I cashed 50,000 miles in to do MYR-CLT and back in the same day (you heard me) for an interview because my son was in a minor accident the day before and I didn't have time to drive it. The CP desk guy took pity on me and only charged me a $25 expedite fee instead of $75.

But...both ways the desk agents 'goofed' and upgraded me to First. When you cash that many miles, the ticket prints as "Y" fare, not a Z, and that alerted them to upgrade me. All of 40 minutes worth each way. But, since I'm still unemployed, none of it (besides saving the $50) really meant much beyond just getting there.

I'd cash in the whole **** mess on US & DL, cards and all, and start over, just to be working again. Sorry to be down, folks, but it's been rough.
