TalkBoard Topics - Forum suggestion: Travel Security Newsstand

I've noticed that the Newsstand forum is becoming very full of travel security articles ('The TSA groped me' style articles). While I think these are important to discuss on Flyertalk, I also think they're starting to become quite divisive. I think keeping them in some kind of separate forum (subforum?) would help allow people who have an opinion on the TSA (or other security agencies) have a discussion, while at the same time keeping them out of the way of people who have little interest in the subject (but are interested in flying related news).

I'd be interested to know whether anyone else feels there is a need for a 'split' or whether this is just a phase we are going through?

There's already a Travel Safety/Security forum (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/travel-safety-security-222/). If you feel an article has been misposted into Newsstand, use RBP to suggest moving it elsewhere.

The point I was trying to make is that there seems to be a large amount of travel security news. Does this go in the Travel Safety/Security forum? If so, in the 'Newsstand' forum about 12 of the 25 first page posts are to do with the TSA and their procedures need to be moved. Of course, it seems equally valid that they stay in newsstand (they're news after all), it's just that useful news seems to get lost in a sea of TSA stuff.

Perhaps we should consider a sub-forum to TSS where just news items about Security are posted. However, there appears to have been a very substantial increase in posts to TSS and I'd like to see if that settles down before we look at forum reforms, to deal with what, may be, a short term uptick in posts.

Thanks for the reply and I suspect you're right - this may be a temporary increase in news. For now I shall follow Spiff's advice and shall 'report' things which look like they're in the wrong place.

I am competely agree with you. Its should have to kept separately the thread in subforums is a easier way to do it. TB will have to decides who likely to create new subforums. Whether if we are agreed to put on another subforums in Travel Security Newsstands is a particular consideration. Because it was too many people who posting on TSS forums due to new security procedures. I wasn't aware of TB will have to be approved.

I agree with Spiff and Markie. Move to TSS and if the trend continues, consider a subforum under TSS.

I know one regular poster in Newsstand that does post some security related articles is banned from Travel Safety/Security, so it's the only place he can post articles related to the screening process, and he is following the posting guidelines for that forum. I've followed the Newsstand forum for 10 years and forecast it will go back to its normal volume in a couple weeks when the front page TSA newspaper stories start dropping off.

The last time I had a discussion of the article posting policy with the moderator there was when an FTer went on a posting spree, posting obscure news articles we'd all be interested in (things like the appointment of an assistant to the assistant director at Podunk Airport). He personally took up the entire front page of Newsstand with articles like this. What we're seeing now is nothing as bad as that was. I had a very good dialog with the moderator about that issue, and I would encourage the OP to approach the moderator with his concerns. I think you'll find him pretty responsive to a PM.
