What is the latest on us-united merger?

It's not going to happen. Any and all news that has come out recently about the merger has been negative (or positive, depending on how you look at it!). UAL has even admitted that it has a "Plan B," but US says that it does not. The US Transportation Secretary does not think it will go through. The deadline is August 1, after which either party can back out. However you look at it, the merger looks very unlikely at this point, which is just fine with me!
