US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Free ticket for Gatwick Express for flying Envoy to LGW

Was at the airport this evening (coincidentally right after they had the ribbon cutting for the new A330 service to LGW) and reviewed a listing of Envoy benefits present at a display. While I thought I knew most of the Envoy benefits, I saw one that surprised me - free ticket for the Gatwick Express (they also have free transfer to LHR via Skylink). While it's not Virgin's free use of a limo in Upper Class, I wished I knew of this for my post-Thanksgiving trip.

Has anyone else used this benefit, or (more importantly) been advised of it?

(And funny thing with tonight's CLT-LGW flight - they boarded the flight through 1L, meaning everyone traipsed through the First and Envoy cabins, even though it looked like 2L boarding could have been done.)

Everytime I have flown to Gatwick on US I had a driver waiting for me to take me anywhere within a 50 mile radius. All I had to do was call the international desk and request it.

Once my connection was delayed and US put me on a DL flight (worst of my life) and the driver was still their waiting for me with the nicest sign with my name on it! (I was 3 hours late and on another airline, which US advised him of!). Needless to say I was very happy with the service and gave him a big tip as the service was free--I also wrote a very nice note to US. This was in mid 2000 I am not possitive that they still do it (you always had to ask for it they did not advertise the service).

I would call the international desk and say you know they provide the service and you want it.

Thanks Rachel - I learn something new everyday.

Is the driver available for just paid Envoy, or is it available for those of us using award tickets, or upgrading with SWUs?

Moreover, is there free ground transport available in other cities for Envoy passengers?

Yeah, I flew in Envoy a few months ago and paid for Gatwick Express.. I'd like to know too, can upgraded pax get the free ground transport (any, I'm not picky)? If so, who do we call/talk to, since the FAs didnt mention it?

They only offer this service for Gatwick, since most people rather go to heathrow. All other destinations you are on your own. I am not sure about upgraded tickets but I do know that they do it for envoy--I would call and ask.

They do not advertise this service, I have never had any agent ask me if I wanted it when booking tickets. I've always had to ask for it, but I always got it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

hope that helps

The lounge also offers a valet service, with express clothes pressing and mending services and shoeshine on site. Additional features include workstations with telephones and data ports, a fax machine, copier and shredder.

Just bringing this back to the top.

* Is the free transfer good on upgraded Envoy travel; and

* Can upgraded Envoy pax use the Arrivals lounge while transitting?

US, unlike UA, allows upgraded pax access to its arrivals and departure lounges and doesn't seem to water down benefits for upgraded pax - so would imagine that the limo/Gatwick Express ticket is available for upgraded pax (hell, I'd have used it on my trip last November had I known the benefit is available). Trickier part is whether or not transit passengers can use the Arrivals Lounge. They should be able to - but you'll have to clear Immigration as the Arrivals Lounge is in the Arrivals Hall, past Customs. Meaning if your intention is not to have to clear Immigration - no access. And then, your only shot would be to access the Admirals Club (if you're a US Airways Club member) or the lounge of the airline you're flying on next. And if you've got to transfer to the North Terminal for the next flight - I'm told there's a shuttle between the North and South terminals that operates from the sterile areas, and does not require you to clear Customs and Immigration.
