Choice Privileges - New Platinum card: "Valid through 2010." Are they kidding?!

As I've noted elsewhere, I sort of stumbled across the Platinum line with enough :o's in pursuit of the 8,000 point bonuses. The card arrived with luggage tags today with the above expiry. See the date of this post...

Nice that they sent you the luggage tags and the 2010 Platinum card. My understanding from a recent email from Choice Privileges is that 2011 elite cards will be mailed sometime in mid-December 2010. Can't you wait a few weeks for your 2011 Platinum card? :confused:

Quick question: I have over 50 nights this year, so made Platinum in 2010 and have my 2010 card and tags. Since I earned Platinum in 2010 by staying over 50 nights, do I maintain Platinum status for of 2011, but need 40+ nights in 2011 to maintain status for 2012? That's how most hotel program s work, but I am confused with Choice. If I have to earn 40+ nights a year and my status expires that same year then why bother?

You will maintain Platinum for all of 2011 even if you don't ever stay in another Choice hotel again, since you met the Platinum qualification requirements during calendar year 2010. You should receive your 2011 Platinum card around mid-December 2010.

What gave you the impression that your status would expire the same year you qualified?
