The CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority says airport officials, airlines, and other players in the travel and tourism industry are increasingly banding together to demand changes to the way the federal government runs — and taxes — aviation in this country.

That’s because evidence continues to mount Canada is losing tourists to other countries, and losing its own flyers to American airports.

YWG already has a $20 departure tax which is on the high side, and with the boondoggle of the new terminal I bet that will be going up. Yes the feds sure rip off YWG...

The din is getting louder and all the users are sharing the same voice. But as this is such a cash cow for the already cash-strapped feds, I don't expect any meaningful reduction in rents anytime soon, if ever.
In the backrooms, I'm sure the Transport Minister is placating the Calins and Greggs of the industry by pointing out how the Feds have gone to bat for the airlines by negotiating various bilateral treaties that offer immense benefits for the major airlines, and will emphasize their AC-friendly position on contentious matters such as the one with the UAE for example.
