Quoted from Jack Traveler:

"Here's a golden opportunity to earn 2001 Gold Preferred membership when you fly
just 12,500 Preferred Miles or 20 Preferred Segments between now and July 10, 2001...register by calling 1-800-872-4738 and entering BRN 2310.."

Does anybody know when does the above promotion start? So far I have about 12,950 Preferred Miles for 2001. Does that mean I already qualified?

Usually the challenge promos run for 1 1/2- 2 months. This one at a minimum would be 3 months. I would call for clarification.

aw: Don't know anything about that particular promotion, but it sounds like the standard Gold Challenge (not that US trumpets that they have one). I would call the DM Service Center and ask if you could be part of a Gold Challenge and make it retroactive to Jan. 1 (or whatever date you started your travels (around MLK Day IIRC)). I did the same thing last year (post-F/A settlement) and was able to get in and count my flights from the previous couple of weeks. I was not targeted for a challenge, and did not receive a mailing for one. Nonetheless, did it and got Gold.

FYI to all - my wife recently asked US to be signed up for a gold challenge. They responded that one did not exist.

In their response, they specifically said: "The offer you reference is one we make available by invitation to previous Gold Preferred members as a safety net or second chance to regain their lost status. We would offer you a similar opportunity with half the requirements had you been unable to maintain your Silver Preferred status. While we would not be able to offer you this particular challenge I would be glad to activate a Gold Preferred tier level if you were to catch up to a pro-rated pace of travel commensurate with that level. If your were to finish the first half of 2001 with either 25,000 Preferred miles or 30 segments please call 800-428-1775 and we would activate Gold Preferred for you in anticipation of your finishing 2001 with the standard requirement of 50,000 Preferred miles or 60 segments. I have placed a comment to that effect on your profile. "

Then I saw the "2310" bonus, and just signed her up for it anyway. Kind of bothers me, because she already had 20k of travel booked in 2Q 2001 - which we mentioned in the initial request. Why do they make this such a mystery, and make it sound like it doesnt exist? And that its only a 'safety net'??

Griping aside, is it possible that this was a targeted bonus for people who were previously gold and just missed requalifying? Is this true of people who got this mailed to them?

Thanks for all your replies. Good to hear from you, CLTFlyer.

I did register for the promotion. However, I have been very hesitant to contact the DIVIDENDS MILES desk because last year after qualifying for SILVER, I also saw the GOLD challenge promotion and feeling certain that I qualified, I contacted the DM desk. A lady advised me that indeed I became GOLD and the following day there was this message in my answering machine advising me that since I qualified for SILVER already, I couldn't do it for GOLD. They went ahead and put a manual entry in my profile and ever since that time, I think that sometimes is best to play dumb.

What status does the US website show you when you check your recent account activity? If you're Gold, it'll say so.

It still says SILVER PREF. Once we register for a particular promotion - eg. Gold Preff Qualification, do you think this is processed automatically or is this verified by a person?

I ask this because if my memory serves me right, there was a previous thread some time ago about someone who qualified for SILVER the first time and right afterwards became GOLD. To this day I ponder whether I should have kept myself shut or not....just wondering.

I'm pretty sure these upgrades in status are processed automatically - mine showed up on the web site within a day of the mileage posting. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

There may be pitfalls in signing up for every valid bonus code on the Official Bonus Code thread. Some promos aren't valid with others, and the less favorable promo may override the more favorable.

I called Dividend Miles yesterday, mentioned the 2310 Gold promo and asked if they had a Silver version this time. She found it and referred to it as the Silver Rush (I presume 2310 would be Gold Rush). She signed up my wife and I asked her the code. It was 2308 and requires 6250 miles or 10 segments by July 10th [date edited]. I asked if they allowed doing the Gold and Silver promos together, and she said NO.

So, I guess it might screw up 2308 if we inadvertantly signed up for a Gold Rush promo without knowing it. I suspect there may be several 2310, (maybe) 2311, and perhaps others for different expiration dates. So I would only sign up for the unknown, but working promo codes if you are willing to accept that you may be cancelling another promo out.

Very recently and before this call, I had been specifically told that there were no untargeted Silver promos this year. Similar to hscottm's experience in inquiring about a Gold challenge. So they either just added them, not all agents know how to find them, or your have to know something specific, like the code or a similar code, before they will discuss.

[edited on 5/1 to correct the expiration date]

Thanks aw - good to hear from you as well.

As for whether status on a challenge is updated automatically, it's a maybe. If you're targeted for a challenge - should happen. When I signed up for the challenge (again, post-F/A situation - (here I digress) so they were probably being real nice about letting me do it when technically they probably should not have ... although I think they should do it all the time like AA) - I did call and check after my last flight posted to make sure all was well and that I made Gold. The Silver Preferred rep noted that the change had not been made and had the change made manually with her supervisor - meaning you may want to follow up with DM.

Update on code 2308:

I called and asked for the promo details and was told that the qualifying flights to make the 6250 miles or ten segments must be completed between 4/6/01 and 7/10/01 (not july 30th). Also, the Silver status only lasts until 2/2002.

Just talked to DM desk and was told that 12,500 miles need to be flown between the period mentioned above, regardless of how many miles you balance has.

Thank you all for your replies.
