Called to get a US20 upgrade for the wife for her upcoming trip. Encountered a little problem with the process:
I checked ITN.net and found that not a single F class seat had yet been taken for all the segments. With that info in hand, called up reservations to get the upgrade (I'd later have to call the DM center to get the certificate). Anyhow, no problem on the outbound legs. However, I was told that the upgrade was not available on the return portion. "How can that be," I asked. I got the standard response about certain fares being sold out yada, yada, yada. My response was that G inventory showed G7 on all legs. Still, the response was "the computer's showing its not available." I asked here to check each segment indivually. Low and behold - UPGRADES AVAILABLE.
The problem is that if you have a segment where there is no F class (i.e. Metrojet, Express, or Shuttle), the computer will initially deny your entire portion of the trip. So, be sure to ask for upgrades by segment.
