Hi,
Just a warning regarding Hertz and EB earnings. I booked and paid for a car on the Hertz website (two weeks of vacation in the US). When I booked I entered the EB number and on the receipt I got when picking up the car my EB number was stated.
But after 2 months no points had been posted. So I contacted Hertz and they told me that you don’t get any points if you pay for the car in advance. You only get points if you pay at the counter.
This sounds bit stupid since the default option at the Hertz website is “pay in advance” and if you choose to pay at the counter (provided that you at all see the small link where this can be changed) the cost is significantly higher (50% higher price in my case). Also it seems like in many countries you don't get all the insurances etc, as it will be a local rental if paying at the counter.
This basically means that EB earning isn’t possible at all for private rentals as I don’t see any reason why someone would want to pay at the counter (higher cost, currency risk, not all insurances etc). For corporate bookings it might be another case, but my recommendation to you all is to use AVIS instead - they don't seem to have the same strange rule.

You should bug them some more. It worked for me (even double points).

Did you try the online retro claim registration tool on SAS ´s website ?

Yes - from SAS website there's a link to Hertz where you fill out a retro claim form. After submitting it I received an error message that the rental didn't qualify. I then e-mailed Hertz and they explained that pre-paid rentals don't give points.
Have you received points when booking prepaid?

I have experienced the same thing once. I have no idea why Hertz would distinguish between pre-paid or non-paid rentals, it's just weird, but it is documented on sas.se: "Du tjänar inte poäng när du bokar med särskilda företags- och kontraktspriser, via pre-paid eller researrangörer."

Hertz seems to be a mess with EB... I've normally got points for bookings in Sweden, both pre-paid and paid for at the counter. I have however for some bookings, both Swedish and international, used discount codes (CDP-code)from Hertz that are not the codes linked to EB and then the reply from Hertz retrocredit has been that the rental is not qualified.

Interesting, i have the same situation. I made a weekend rental in germany with Hertz one month ago, using the EBS discount prepaid code.
Since i didnt get any points yet, i did a retro claim using the link to Hertz on SK homepage about 1 week ago. One day later, i got an (automated?) mail from Hertz saying that they had submitted the points to my account. But, as of yet, no points. If i don't get any points for this, i will definately write a sour letter.. (and go back to using AVIS which has never given me these troubles).

I had the same experience with Sixt pre-paid rates - no points.

I'm pretty sure I didn't book prepaid. But it just occurred to me that I remember encountering Hertz #1 Club differences between hertz.com and hertz.se. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it, though. Unfortunately I can't find the email receipts for this trip since I changed jobs since then.

Same problem for me with Hertz prepaid but I never got any points back afterward despite complaining. I don't travel regularly with Hertz and this along with numerous other issues when picking up the car made this my last time with Hertz since then.

Are you sure of that ? Because I´ve had a prepaid Sixt rental recently, where I recieved points. This rental was private, not corporate, if that makes any difference regarding points earning.

Same with me. I had a rental 3 weeks ago which was prepaid some 6-8 weeks prior and I got the EB points ok.
Maybe this restriction is specific to certain markets, US market for instance? My rental was in the UK.

on 4 occasions I have failed as well.' It might be that they are right, but 4 times out of 4?
first time, because it was pre-paid in USA
the three last time because it was company negotiated rates and therefore not eligible for points.
switched to Avis and have not had any problems at all...

I'm sure because I went to online retro-claim, entered my rental no and got something like "rate is not eligible for points". That was a private rent. However I can't remember if I got same issues other times on a prepaid rate, I'm usually too lazy to go extra mile for just 500 points unless they posted automatically.

In Hertz's T&C's it clearly says that paid with voucher, ie advance payment, is a non-qualifying rate and you will not earn any miles/points.
The reason is that it's supposed to be a better rate than the flexible, pay on return, ones.
There are also restriction regarding cancelation of AP rates
However. what kind of rate you'll get depends a lot on which discount code, CDP, you use, if you have any coupon, and in addition which Hertz (or Avis for that matter) site you use.
Some CDPs will always generate advance payment rates only, and vice versa ie some will only generate discounted flexible rates
You will most likely get different rates if you use hertz.com hertz.co.uk or
hertz.se etc.
Furthermore, Hertz #1 club is really hit and miss, often you'll
get a worse rate if you are logged in when book a car than if you're not, seems like it depends on your address, or country of residence rather.
If you change address on your profile the rate will usually vary.
If there is an offer like double or tripple miles you'll almost always have to use the airline's CDP to get that, otherwise you'll most likely only get the standard 500 or whatever miles.
If you use SAS' site to rent a car in the US, CDW (ie excess free insurance) will be included in the rate, use Hertz.com and that'll be an aditional $25 or so/day, although the rate ex. CDW might be better.
As for AVIS, book a car through avisba.com and the rate will be good and include insurance LDW/ALI if you're renting in the US, if on the other hand
you rent a car in the UK the rate will be lousy.
In the latter case I've found that using avis.com and an avis prefereed #
will get the best rates in the UK.
In my rather limited experience Sixt's paid in advance rental will not earn miles
Renting a car is science, if in doubt check out FT hertz and Avis forums.

fyi,
I hade a Hertz rental in Sweden two weeks ago. Booked it on hertz.se, using the EB gold CDP code and got a choice between pay now or later. As the pay now option was some 40% cheaper the choice was simple. Having this conversation in mind I was positively surprised to see the 500 miles being posted on my EB account today.

I've been denied EB points (using the link for Hertz on-line retro claim) for both Corporate rate CDP and EBG CDP prepaid. Both rentals were in the US this past October, and I've previous been awarded EB points for same types of rentals.
If this means that effectivily any use of a CDP voids points, there's very little incentive left to choose Car rental based on FFP earnings.

I booked a car using the Global Sale CDP below and to my surprise I just got 500 points, I really hadn't expected that heavily discounted & pre-paid
I have noticed that it has become more and more difficult to earn points for both Avis and Hertz. I had one client that required that I use their corporate CDP for Hertz. The rate was not particularly good; didn't get any points with Hertz.
Many codes that I use with Avis do not earn points. I usually only use Avis for special discount codes. There is one for $30/day with 150 miles cpa. It is good for peak season or weekday if you are not driving long distance. Its from an insurance company (probably for collision rentals) and it does not earn EB points.
The ones that do earn points for me are typically rock bottom weekend rates where CDP doesn't matter. (Like $19.99 a day.)
For US based people we rarely get the pay in advance offer. And we aren't concerned about insurance since our private car insurance and the CC cover insurance. In fact, it is a struggle to remove insurance in the ROW.
In any case, I have started using National more and more in the US due to lower rates, their Emerald Aisle pick your car option.
