OK, I have been reading this website for over a week now, so it is my time to add to the boards. This posting relects my most recent and very positive experience with USAir.
I am currenty a Silver Preferred on USAir, and am doing a couple of mileage runs to attain Gold.
Since I live in the Los Angeles area, the best way for me to do this is not through running up segments, but attaining the actual miles flown, in that USAir only departs LAX for their major East Coast hubs (PIT, PHL, CLT, BWI, etc.)
Thus this past weekend I did the following route: LAX-BWI Sat afternoon flight departing at 3:15pm and got in to BWI about 20 min early just before 11:00pm. I stayed the night in a comfortable bed at the Sheraton on BWI (.5 miles from the terminal -- about a 3 min shuttle ride) for $99. Then I flew back out on Sunday morning on the early 6:30am flight to PHL, and back out at 8:10am arriving at LAX about 30 min early around 10:45am. Airfare was $212.50 including all fees.
I achieved app 5000 qualifying miles plus my 50% silver bonus, another 2500. Also, I got 1000 for the online booking bonus and another 500 for the hotel. So as I figure it about 9000 total miles.
I know many of you have posted various to get perhaps more miles per dollar spent, however, being a pretty busy business exec, I don't have the luxury of taking too many days off during the week.
I used purchased upgrade certs and was able to upgrade to First Class all the way through. Another bonus was that the PHL-LAX leg was on a brand-spanking new A321, and it was a pleasure to fly in such a beautiful airplane. The front cabin seats were wide and spacious...and had this really cool "swing out" drink table in addition to the meal table.
Food was excellent all the way through and I gotta tell you, I received warm, friendly, almost "Small-Business" type service from everyone from the FA's to the ground crew.
Even the Silver Registration Agent worked with me to enable to get up front on all flights.
I also decided to join the USAirways Club for the $275 fee, getting another 5000 miles in the process.
I do have another run scheduled for Memorial Weekend in May, combining my efforts on both USAir and UAL. But alas, I will save that review for another posting to follow.
