US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - US Air Floride Shuttle?

I was on a US Airways Express flight between ERI and PIT last weekend, and I noticed a bag in the overhead with a luggage tag that said, "US Air Florida Shuttle Club". Does anyone know what this was from? The logo was the old US Air logo. Just curious.

Sorry, I can't spell Florida. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/tongue.gif

Don't know what the Shuttle Club was (perhaps our resident Floridan bizjet can answer that) ... but I'll bet it was related to the since dismantled "Florida Shuttle" which had (IIRC) US using TPA and MCO as mini-hubs for a tons of inter-Florida flights. However, with the appearance of low fare carriers, and the general mentality of the early '90s management (who would have probably run the company into the ground then, instead of the way Wolf is trying to now) who preferred to shrink the airline rather than grow it (they once tried to put the 12 767s on the market - they were willing to toast their Int'l routes in the mid-'90s)- the Shuttle died a painful death. Although nowadays, there seems to be a good bit of inter-Fla. service frm TPA and Tallahassee (sp?).

On a related point - I imagine y'all remember the "California Shuttle" too - of course, post-PSA/US merger - which was likewise dismantled (it's called lack of vision - but the counter is, it's called keeping an airline out of bankruptcy). Bet they had a club too.

The Club you refer to was a promo that US had many years ago for intra florida flyers.
I cannot remember what the promo was but I was a member and still have the tags!

Y'all are correct . . . the Florida Shuttle Club was late 1980s to mid-1990s when USAir dismantled many of the intra-FL routes.

There was a comment above about TPA and TLH service. USAir recently killed non-stops from TLH to MIA and only has one flight per day from TLH to FLL and FLL to TLH. I would not call this plentiful.

I have USAir Florida Shuttle bag tags and they're on my primary carry-ons. Personally, I think old tags are really cool, so I have a USAir Florida Shuttle and an Eastern Ionosphere Club tags on my bag. But I wasn't flying Erie to PIT any time recently!

As to what it was, I really am not sure. It was a part of the old USAir Frequent Flyer program, and it was restricted to Florida residents. I think it was designed for any Florida resident USAir frequent flyer, not just intra-Florida ones (I rarely fly within the state). I really don't remember what if anything good it gave, perhaps a points bonus or something. I think it was designed to encourage Florida-based flyers to fly on USAir rather than Delta, which at the time was the other major Florida airline (still is, but others are encroaching). I know for sure that it ended with the USAir Frequent Flyer program, but not sure if it ended well before Dividend Miles or was lost in the change over.
