It's a shame you have to fly backwards to PIT to get this routing from EWR. That adds about 3 hours off your total trip time, so if it's worth the savings, then go for it. But if CO offered a similar deal, nonstop, for $400 I'd take it for the added convenience of nonstop - even if it means sacrificing miles.

This e-saver special is also available from a bunch of other cities, not EWR only, to both MUC and FRA. See http://www.usairways.com/esavers/offers_fra_muc.htm for details. BTW, the fare from Philly, which depending on where you live in New Jersey, can be as convenient as EWR, is $287.

What's the success rate been for anyone trying to book this for May?

Zero. On Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Today, I tried all the esaver fares for FRA for every day of the sale, for Portland, ME/ BOS/MHT/PVD/ORH/BDL, for the hubs & BWI, and for all of NYC. They all come up sold out. Leading me to believe that the critical "Hub-FRA" legs are e-saver sold-out. Anyone know of a better way to determine/confirm this?

Most of the fares under $700RT to FRA are unavailable thru Jun 30, at this time. Then again, I have discovered that they sometimes release a few tickets at a time for some fares/routes, but I haven't really been looking at the e-savers behavior as much.

This recent round of fares seems to be really pushed and, given the lateness of the availability, the length of this e-saver (3 weeks of dates), coupled with the recently ended (which had an end-date that slipped 3 times!) "thru Jun 15 sale", I would suspect the few seats they actually released at on e-saver, went like hotcakes. Probably an apetite whetting maneouver; hope for a "late spring/early summer" followup if seat sales remain slack.
