US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - Can I use 22,000 miles for anything?View Full Version : Can I use 22,000 miles for anything? johnfpage Apr 19, 01, 11:39 pm I have 22,000 miles on USAir, can I use them for anything or transfer them anywhere? ------------------ ITRADE Apr 20, 01, 7:21 am Sure you can. You can do at least two things. You can use 20,000 for an off peak free round trip ticket anywhere in the U.S. Off peak means Sept. - Feb. which allows for free travel during Thanksgiving and Christmas (minus about 4 blackout dates). Or you can use 20,000 to upgrade an entire trip on US - domestic/Canada/maybe Caribbean - to First class. silverpie Apr 20, 01, 10:07 am Originally posted by ITRADE: Or you can use 20,000 to upgrade an entire trip on US - domestic/Canada/maybe Caribbean - to First class. Caribbean (like Mexico) requires 30,000, unless you're on a Y-class (full or near-full) fare. In fact, with a fare that high, you can upgrade roundtrip to Europe for 20,000, and even on a restricted fare to Europe, 20,000 will upgrade you one-way. But to upgrade a roundtrip at a discount fare with 20,000, it has to be within the US (not counting Puerto Rico, and they don't fly to AK/HI anyway) or to Canada. worldbanker Apr 20, 01, 10:10 am Doesn't US have a similar program as DL where you only need 15k for travel on the shuttle between any of LGA/BOS/DCA? ------------------ "Fly me to the moon and let me earn alot of miles." davohuang Apr 20, 01, 11:40 am Yes, but apparently all Shuttle awards must be booked and taken by June 30, 2001. Check out this web page for more info on standard awards: http://www.usairways.com/dividendmiles/redeemingmiles/usairways/standard.htm Mikey likes it Apr 20, 01, 9:44 pm Until I stumbled across this thread, I didn't know that an off-peak econ. award was a mere 20,000 points. Thanks, ITRADE. I recently moved from Indy to Chicago, so I will not likely use US much at all any more. I'm also losing, or have lost, faith that the merger will go through, giving me a consolidated UA/US account. The problem is that I have a mere 19,462 miles in my US account. Does anyone have a way to make a quick 550 miles? I am headed to the Mileage Workshop (http://www.mileageworkshop.com) for some ideas right now. Sign up for your dividend miles statement to be sent to your e-mail address. (250 or 500 miles?) Dividend Miles Dining program. There has to be at least 50 restaurants to eat at in Chicago. You get 10 miles for every dollar. I feel that this is the best kept secret in most every FF program. I've earned LOADS of miles this way - usually business dinners. Mikey likes it Apr 20, 01, 11:01 pm I just remembered that I have no ld service on the phone line that is dedicated to my (local) internet connection and receiving faxes. There is a 2000 mile bonus (1000 for each of the next two months). plus a 1000 mile bonus for signing up online. Anyone know when the online signup bonus posts? BTW, ITRADE, I agree 100% on your praise for Mileage Plus dining. A $500 biz dinner becomes 5000 miles in the bank. I am signed up through United, my primary airline, and have reaped a boatload of miles that way. Remember, though, a few program or practical limitations: a) only the first visit per restaurant per month counts. b) $600 cap on awards. Meals in excess of $600 count for 6000 miles. c) Sometimes dining awards don't show up, and it's easy to forget to follow up d) I'm sure there are others. Anyone? Most major airlines have a similar program. I imagine that one can be registered with only one airline partner at a time, as most if not all of these programs seem to be administered by idine.com/Transmedia. Has anyone had any success in signing up for more than one airline partner at a time? Mike [This message has been edited by Mikey likes it (edited 04-20-2001).] |
