Question is, until when is the reciprocity of lounges offered with AA Admirals Club and what can we can expect UA with USAir Club members in the future?

Reciprocity ends August 31, 2001 (although can end sooner if the airlines wish to).

As to what we can expect - who knows. The subject may have been addressed in either UA or US' FAQs on the merger (I do seem to recall that memberships would be honored through their expiration date - although there is the thorny issue of how they're handling life memberships). I would expect nothing solid until there's a final word on the merger (they could have announced pre-approval like TW-AA - but that would have been UA playing far too nice), but would guess that if the merger is approved, they'd go ahead and allow reciprocal use of the the Red Carpet Club and US Airways Club, likely subject to some conditions, probably just like the US-AA deal.

According to the US site, life memberships will be honored by UA (unlike the lousy TW-AA club deal).

Timing couldn't be better as the rates go up by $25 per year beginning 5/1, except for Chairman's Preferred members.

Sorry for displaying my ignorance, but are cocktails complimentary at USAir clubs?

Also, do they check for same-day boarding passes?

Hard drinks in the US Club are $4.00 each and there is no boarding pass requirement unless you are flying in Envoy/International First and DON'T have a membership. Also, soda. coffees, and snacks are all free!

In addition, $3 beer & wine.

You do get free drinks/beer/wine if departing on an international flight in Envoy or Intl. First Class at the US Clubs in PIT and CLT. PHL has a dedicated Departure Lounge (only Envoy & FC passengers; no general Club members or coach flying elites allowed).

For the serious Club and/or inflight coach class drinker you can purchase a book of 10 drink coupons for $30. That doesn't save you a dime if you drink beer or wine but does save you $1 each time you order a hard drink.

If I'm traveling in International Envoy YYZ-PHL-FCO, would the Admirals Club in YYZ provide me with free drinks?

Uuuuhmmmm...ok...not much incentive to join, then. I'd ask what the heck the difference is between "Envoy" and "First" but am sure that geo would deck me since I can go look that up myself http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

koko, remeind me to show you a copy of US Airways Internation FC wine list. The one good thing about Chair-daddy Stephen Wolf is that he loves wine. US's Intl. FC wine list kicks you-know-what. Envoy is no better or worse than most other carriers Business Class product.

Is this worth the $$$ difference b/w Envoy and FC? Nope. How about the difference b/w an 80k Envoy vs. an 125k FC award? Nope. The only prudent reason to be in row-1 of the A-330 is if you are on a full-fare biz ticket and use miles or systemwides to upgrade. Besides, PHL-FCO is the longest flight and that only clocks in at 10 hours on the westbound leg.

Or, you could do a search like everyone else. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Thanks, geo. So is it best to go on a 767 where I wouldnt get jealous of the people in the cabin ahead of me?

See, that's the beauty of the UA 747. Sitting upstairs in business class, you have no idea how much better the people downstairs in the nose cone suites have it http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.

Doubt it. When flying Envoy, you get free drinks only at US Airways Clubs - so if you're flying Envoy say from YYZ, ORD or ATL (cities with no US club), you're out of luck until you reach your hub city or a city with a US Club. In fact, you won't be able to get into the YYZ Admirals Club without a US Airways Club card (through the end of August with a same day ticket on US or AA) or (of course) an Admirals Club membership. Alcoholic drinks in the Admirals Club are not complimentary.

I thought maybe US and AA had some sort of reciprocal agreement with International Business Class travelers. I have an Admirals Club membership, so I won't have any problem getting into the YYZ club.
