SINGAPORE : A Singapore Airlines (SIA) plane, SQ 61, had to turn back shortly after take-off from Houston, Texas on Tuesday after experiencing problems.

SIA confirmed that the Boeing 777 300-ER bound for Singapore had a problem with its landing gear.

SIA spokesman Nicholas Ionides said the plane left Houston at 6.30am Singapore time with more than 200 passengers.

SIA said it has re-booked some of them on the next SIA flight out of Houston on Wednesday at 6:30am Singapore time.

Ionides said it has also acceded to requests from some passengers to fly other carriers.

My husband was on this flight yesterday for a business trip. His first trip in SQ C (we typically fly UA and LH--no comparison to SQ) and he was so excited.

SQ originally told passengers that flight would take off a day late (i.e. they would have two flights to Moscow on 11/9) but thanks to this thread he can come home rather than wait around the airport in vain.

Any idea if he will get mileage credit for the IAH-DME flight? This is the flight that would have requalified him for 1P. Sigh.
