I am going to SEA in a few weeks, taking the late (8:55pm) PIT-SEA flight. Was considering using my miles to upgrade to F, but am concerned this is a snack flight (cold chicken plate) as opposed to full dinner service. But since it is such a long flight, I may want to upgrade anyway.

The return flight is the 2:11pm SEA-PIT 757, which should be worthwhile to upgrade, because it is a lunch flight. Does anyone know if there is a prearrival snack on that flight?

Also, how do you upgrade a ticket using miles? I am not buying the ticket. Can it all be handled at the airport, or do I have to go through the mess of doing a reissue?

Thanks for some answers. My status is on UA, but I need to take US on this trip because it is a nuisance to make the trek to SYR to take another airline for a short trip.

A 9:00 p.m. departure will certainly be a cold chicken plate flight.

Well - as it is a transcon, upgrading to F is worth it either way - unless you can easily sleep in a coach seat.

To upgrade, just call the reservations folks and ask them to upgrade your flight using miles. They'll pull up the record - and you then ask to have the 20k miles deducted. Of course, as JetTroop learned, if there's no G class availability, you have a problem. So you may want to check Itn.com out (using expert level) to see if there are any G seats available on your flight. Or just call reservations, and ask if there are upgrade seats available before you have the miles deducted.

Good luck.

That flight to SEA should be a level 1 service flight, which means dinner with all the trimmings, especially ice cream sunday's for dessert.

Really? That late?? I did a PHL-SAN run some months back that was about an 8:30 departure - cold chicken.

I did a 9:00 PM PIT-SAN last week. Cold chicken plate it was... Doubt PIT-SEA be any different at that time.

It does say snack on the timetable.

BTW, do all non-redeye west coast-east coast get a light snack prior to arrival in F?
