US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - US miles are good for UA miles-written ad

The back cover of a recent National Journal (political rag) has an ad, aimed at Congress, about why the merger is good for consumers. In it, they promise that all US miles are good for UA miles. Period. Email me if you have any questions about the content, but that sounds like we have no worries. Oh, that is, IF they merge.

Hmmm... I've never wondered whether my US miles were in jeopardy; I knew they wouldn't be.
The problem is with the perks associated with Preferred levels of the Dividend Miles program, which are, by far, much more superior to Mileage Plus, from what I've researched. Now *that* I'm concerned about.

GregW - welcome to our happy forum.
To echo what Arrzee said, we know our miles will be fine - and if UAL were stupid enought to devalue our miles - then they lose a lot of what they want to gain, namely US' strengths in the Northeast and the Southeast - anf they then shoot themselves in the head. No airline with the sense God gave the average wildebeast would do that (but then we're talking about United).
What we're concerned about is that we are displeased that our status will do us zero good on UAL, other than to put us in Economy Plus (oh boy, so looking forward to that).
Yes, we get Pacific routes, but we have a great FF program that the geniuses at UA will toast in order to maintain conformity with UA's lovely "I can't seem to get an upgrade on a domestic flight even as a 1K" Mileage Plus program. And hey, it's nice being part of a program where every elite member gets to learn the joys of systemwide upgrades.
So we don't hate United so much as we hate Mileage Plus.

Speak for yourself; I hate United too. Hated them before I even knew/cared about frequent flier programs. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Actually, I'm not too fond of 'em either. Guess I'm just trying to play nice.

I agree with my renamed friend pitflyer. I dislike United as well as the Mileage Plus program. I particularly dislike the United Shuttle, and am very concerned about its potential arrival here in PHL. The cattle car United shuttle flights I have taken on the West Coast are probably the worst flights I have ever been on.

Others have mentioned how US Airways elite status is much better than the same level with United. I agree. United upgrades are so hard to get that I've given up (and am no longer elite level at UA).
UA awards are also hard to get. Now that many awards require a Sat. night stay, Sunday returns are impossible to get on UA and a bit hard to get (but easier) on US.

UA awards (even saver awards) don't require Saturday night stays (unlike US) and I really don't find them that difficult to get.
UPGRADES... that's another story... unless you're on a widebody (which there are a lot of mind you), upgrades on UA are very difficult unless you're 1K (which I am, but still occasionally have a problem scoring).
US definately does better with upgrade availability. I rarely have a problem getting a US upgrade (& I'm gold). But, IMHO, UA does a better job with award tickets (don't forget: no fees even for award bookings within hours of departure). The award ticketing system is outstanding on UA (online award bookings are easy to do, again, even within hours of departure).
US never forgets to charge me those processing fees!
