I just had an experience which has made me a US Airways flyer for the rest of their existence!
Due to severe schedule cutbacks at ISP the past year, I have been unable to book trips on US, as the ISP-PHL segments are most often sold out. As a result I failed to requalify for my current elite status.
I had a number of discussions with Gold Preferred reservationists, who told me exactly what to put into a letter to the program manager, and lo and behold, yesterday there was a voice mail that they had agreed to grant my request to retain my current status. Since they have re-instated some of the flights (back up to 7 per day) I should have no problems now.
I have already flown nearly as many segments on US this year as I had all of last, and they have earned my continued loyalty. Way to go US!!!!
I have "sacrificed" by Platinum status at AA and Prem Exec at UA for this--which is probably moot since I will probably be merged into Premier Exec when the merger is done.
Great job US!!
