i hope to upgrade standby on my flights this wknd from clt-fra on fri and fra-phl on sun. as a gold wanting to use my swu's to upgrade, i'm #4 on the waitlist of a plane that itn says has 15 seats avaiable for sale. on sun, i'm #1 on a plane with 17 seats avaiable. are the itn figures reliable at this point?

how does us deal with this? is it likely i'll get both upgrades, or do they often let the envoy cabin fly at half capacity? any tales of your experience would be greatly appreciated.

If you aren't on an e-saver and/or don't have the same trouble as Chexfan, I'd say your chances are good. When I flew PHL-FRA last Thursday, I noticed the middle cabin was fairly empty (just 13/36) - emptier than seats showing allocated when checked on Tuesday. The flight the next day left with 2 seats empty.

Some lucky people were upgraded from the back FRA-PHL last Monday due to a cancelled MUC-PHL flight but there were at least 6 seats empty in J.

However, I understand the Sunday and Friday flights are most popular with biz travellers but it looks good right now!

p.s. register for every code between 2240 and 2283 before you leave. I managed to get more bonus miles than Q-miels for my trip that way!

i'm back, and there was no issue getting the upgrades. clt-fra on friday night had 14 people in envoy and 74 people in coach. fra-phl had 3 in 1st, 14 in envoy, and about 40 in coach. my question is, how long can they fly these planes with this few people? i know it's january, and i see the e-saver, but come on!!! no wonder they're seeking a merger!!!

and the sony passport system is amazing. i would have liked more movies. the 12 choices weren't enough for a frequent flyer like me, as there were only 4 i hadn't seen, and only one of those i saw in the theater, the rest were all in planes. i watched 3 of the 4; bedazzled (beat), remember the titans (EXCELLENT!!!) and toy story 2(sweet and sentimental). EVEN I couldn't bring myself to watch the 4th one, pokemon 2000!!!

i'm also glad i routed myself through clt on fri instead of phl. apparently they hit severe turbulence, dropped 200-300 ft, and rolled about 35%!!! according to the fa's, pplates were flying, wine was flying, and even people were flying. they were all battered and bruised, so they all enjoyed having the back envoy cabin as employee class. apprently, the wine shorted out the video systems in 5a & b. our flight on sunday was sooo uneventful in comparison. all in all, service was great. i just wished i could get more swu's, and get more connection options between nyc and phl to connect to us transatlantic services. that sony system would get me every time!!!

They balance those flights with flights like the one that I was one back in October which was 6/6 in F, 36/36 in J, and 223/224 in Y.
