US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - USAir Miles transferable to AA?

Can USAir miles be transferred on a 1:1 basis from my USAir account to AA?
If so, how long will that last?
Lastly, is there any permanent or annual benefit that would be achieved/recognized by USAir in terms of status if I transferred a tone (1 milllion?) of miles from AMEX into my USAir account?

US is not like AA in that if you accumulate 1m miles you will be Lifetime Gold.

To further clarify what chexfan stated, the combined miles can be used for AA or US awards only, and not for any partners of either programme.

Hmmm. So there's no way to take my miles from USAir and add them to my miles from AA to qualify for AA 1 million miler status?

I think in theory they do transfer US miles into your AA account if you redeem an joint US/AA award on AA. Then they of course spend it immediately. Has anyone noticed if these 'transferred' miles count towards lifetime status?
Of course this means you'd have to redeem a bunch of awards even if this did work.

Not in one fell swoop, but any miles you combine out of US for an award on AA will (I have been told) accrue to million-mile AA status. Time to redeem some miles, perhaps?

So what would it cost to transfer in abunch of awards, get the tickets, and then recredit the award certs back to my AA acount...or would they flow all the way back to USAIR? I think AA will redeposit unused tix...
Can't you get an "award certificate" from AA w/o actually getting a flight confirmation...actual ticket...?

The question/challenge is how to redeem 900,000 miles so that they eventually become AA miles?

AA deducts the entire award mileage requirement from your AA balance, but also credits your AA balance for the points transferred in from your USAir account. So your AA program-to-date miles balance increases by the number of USAir miles used.

Yes, but I don't really want to use 900,000 miles in the next 12 months, I want to move them from USAir to AA before the merger?

That you can't do. You only get to move the miles by actually using them.
I had combined US and AA points for 2 biz tickets to Buenos Aires. I used 10K from my AA account and 170K from my US account. Then I cancelled the trip.
180,000 points were redeposited to my AA account! Maybe I was lucky, or maybe that's how the system works. I'm not complaining, because there are a lot more award destinations on the OneWorld alliance for me to re-use later anyway.

I really think that PHL's and pitflyer's posts should be erased. It works and seems as the way to do it. we just don't need anyone catching on. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Notice who started the 2nd thread that pitflyer references.
Here's a related thread I posted in AA forum. I have had success with this too!

I agree with chexfan:
Be careful what you post, folks. This loophole could dry up quicker than a glass of water spilled on the hot pavement in the West Texas Town of El Paso.

So if using miles from both airlines for an award on AA, do you need to call AA directly, or can USAirways handle it all and push the miles over to AA and redeem the award?
Finally, can you redeem miles for an award certificate with the joint program rather than have to make a particular reservation? Even not withstanding all this hubbub, I'd rather fly AA than UA on an award trip and seems like this way I'd have nearly two years to make up my mind (1 year for the certificate, and then up to another year for the actual reservation).

For those of us grappling with whether to move to AA or stay with UA post-merger, to me, this seems like a perfect marketing strategy for AA to use to gain customers -- offer to take our US miles. It may make absolutely no financial sense short-term to the airline, but boy, what a way to build loyalty!
I'm sure there's some biz-type at AA who can figure out how to make this fly and make A LOT of people happy...
