Travel with Pets - Relocating to Singapore - Taking Dog

Hi all-
My wife and I will be relocating to Singapore at the end of Decemeber and are having a very difficult time figuring out if we can take the dog in the cabin with us. A bit about the dog is he is a 8 month old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has all his shots and immunizations. I have called Continental and Delta but the outsourced customer service reps have been little to no help. My wife, Jim Beam, has also went by a couple travel agents and they've all said to call the airlines. I've also contacted a couple services that cater for this type of travel (AirAnimal) and have received quotes for approx $3500. My question is has anyone had an experience with bringing their dog to Singapore? We need to book our tickets and time is running out for us to figure out what to do.
I have contemplated just going to the airport on the weekend and asking each counter but would rather avoid that option if possible. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions we would greatly appreciate it.

We'll be departing from Memphis, TN however we are willing to drive anywhere within reason if that's what it takes in order to have the dog fly with us.
Here's more pics from today.

It's going to be tough if he has to fly alone not to mention the 30 day quarantine. Poor guy will not know what to do with himself without a lap to sit in.

United flies to SIN (though their service out of TN is meager), and their reps are generally knowledgeable... at least about routine stuff like this. You also have a better shot of getting an insourced rep if your flight is international (which this one is). Give it a shot.

You will have to reconfirm that UA allows carryon dogs for this routing.
United 6706 6:00 AM MEM - 7:47 AM ORD
United 895 12:32 PM ORD - 11:45 PM SIN

DL does fly MEM-ATL-SIN. You may wish to try contacting them again.
I would also double check what the laws are in Singapore for importing a pet before you book anything! @:-)
Also this is a really long time to have a young dog crated whether as a carryon (in cabin) or as checked in the cargo hold. Be prepared to clean up a mess in the crate when you arrive. :(

Be prepared to clean up a mess in the crate when you arrive. :(At least for in-cabin, you could take the pet (in its bag) to the lav to attempt elimination, or cleanup if elimination has already occurred. It may be awkward but it would certainly be better than leaving it to the end!

if you check out this UA link they do mention SIN for both checked and carryon.

However the rate chart is ambiguous and almost looks like they are giving you a rate for departures from SIN.
You definitely have to call UA. @:-)

Telephone Singapore Airline and ask your questions. We've found them to have top class customer service.

The rate quoted for departures from North America is 250 USD. However, that doesn't mean all international destinations are eligible... you still absolutely must call to make sure that Singapore accepts pets as carry-on (or checked baggage) and what the requirements are.

Don't you mean call UA? If I am not mistaken, United 895 is UA metal.

I am 99% sure that Singapore Airlines doesn't allow carryon pets in the cabin and that your little guy would be put in the cargo hold.

I've been doing a good amount of research on SingaporeAir and was hoping we could get on one of the direct business flights out of LAX or EWR but then I hit this roadblock.

Looks like no spaniels are allowed on-board in the flight. Does anyone know off hand of any other airlines that fly direct to SIN and bypass NRT/HKG? The lady I spoke with at Continental said I would have issues carrying on when flying through those countries.
This really has grown legs and become a project in itself. Poor little pup is always on his best behavior too it's a shame he can't reason with the airlines.

As much as I enjoy visiting Singapore, I do not like the government's attitude to pets in general and most specifically to dogs. Allowing for the fact that most people in Singapore live in small apartments and little outside space for dog walking, there is a general anti-pet atmosphere in Singapore.

By the way, according to this link there is a quarantine of 4 weeks for dogs entering Singapore and they also must have an ISO-compatible microchip. Also you need written permission from your landlord to keep a pet at your home in Singapore.
