US Airways CEO Stephen Wolf characterized his airline's operating performance as "absolutely superb." This is of course just days before a potential strike by US Airways FA's. In an exclusive interview reported today in Aviation Daily, Wolf claimes US Airways lengthy operational problems are "fully resolved."

Yeah, I've just had a hemorragic stroke and a myocardial infarction, as well as having been diagnosed with terminal liver cancer- but, hey, what could be better?

I'm "absolutely superb." Hope someone can help me out here understanding this:

And in the way of ongoing contingency plans, US Airways said it arranged for other carriers & AMTRACK trains to honor its tickets in the event the impending shutdown occurs.

I remember when United Airlines had Wolf as the CEO in the 1980s United became the first US airline to not only "fly to all fifty states" but to "strike in all fifty states". Looks like a pattern.
On the bright side there were some special fares and FF promotions after Wolf's last strike.

Depite the earnings report released today, optimism prevails! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

``Our third quarter results are disappointing, reflecting very high fuel costs and increased competition on a significant number of routes. US Airways employees, however, are to be congratulated for a marked year-over-year improvement in our operational performance, especially at a time when we continue to bring a large number of new aircraft into the system,'' said US Airways President and CEO Rakesh Gangwal.

US Airways Chairman Stephen M. Wolf said: ``We are continuing to work closely with the experts at the U.S. Department of Justice, US Department of Transportation, the European Commission and the state attorneys general on their reviews of our merger with United Airlines, which we believe will bring vastly increased breadth of service to communities on the US Airways system.''
