I'm an AA platinum flyer, and I don't really fly US Airways that much anymore (though I do still have silver status), so I thought I'd ask you all for some help.
My parents came to visit me this weekend in NYC. Today, Sunday, they had a flight scheduled from LGA-ROC at 5:10p, however, at about 1PM they decided they'd wanted to take an earlier flight. I sent them off to LGA to try to fly standby on US 3943. They checked in, were issued standby tickets for the flight, and were given small pink tickets for their checked baggage. The ticket agent informed them that they must surrender the pink ticket at the gate for their checked baggage to get loaded on the flight.
My parents proceeded to gate A1 where they checked in and were issued boarding passes. The gate agent looked at the pink tickets my parents had and said she didn't need them. My parents told her that the ticket agent said their bags would not be loaded on the flight unless they surrendered the pink ticket at the gate, but the gate agent insisted that she did not need it.
Needless to say, my parents' luggage did not get put on the flight, and baggage services has no idea where it is. So, my parents hope to get their bags tommorow.
Should we expect any (and if so what) compensation for this? My parents were flying standby, but the lost baggage was entirely the fault of the neglegent gate agent who would not accept the standby baggage tickets and did not know the proper procedure.
Thanks for your help.
