Read the United Press release for yourself:
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/000919/il_united_.html

I've already asked the economist to send me a copy of his study. We'll see. His whole basis is that interline tickets between United and USAirways would be cheaper as one carrier... $100 cheaper per ticket, for a total of $15M.

Of course I think almost everybody can already get to a United flight directly by driving an hour or two and save the interline charge.. but what do I know, I'm not an economist. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not taken into consideration is the fact that I'm going to be royally ticked off when/if the merger goes through -- that's worth at least $20M right? <grin>

BTW Can't change the title. Should say 'STUDY' instead of 'SURVEY'

Let's see. US Airways alone flew over 55 million passengers last year. Let's be greedy and give all of the "saved" $15 million to them.

So, dg1, what are you going to do with your $3.67????

Ups, looking at the headline I was hoping for a saving of 15 Million $ for each of us!!!!!!!!!
Hey with savings of 15 Million $ even my finances would be out of the red!!!!!!
By the way if the deal would save me 15 Milion $ I would not mind them merging with Value Jet or the Vieques Air Link or the New York Tourist Helicopter or a unfriendly takeover by the greats of Bahamasair, no offense the flight attendants are pretty and the flights are safe just financially a tiny airline, whomever.....
I would take any merger whatsoever

"Mergers" are done for the purpose of improving the profitability of the companies involved. They rarely result in savings for the customer. These guys aren't selling equity investments, they're called tickets. Any savings that result in more income are going right to their bottom line. From such events are management bonuses created. And as for these academics with their "studies", if they are so smart, they should be running somebody's company.

$3.67, eh? Pay for 8% of the new fuel surcharge? Buy a big bottle of water at LGA? One in-flight bear with 20% tip? Or just stay home at eat at McDonalds. You be the judge http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Aaaah. Happy Meal. Good idea.

I pray more and more every day that this merger goes down like a lead balloon.

It only applies if you don't live in PIT, CLT, PHL, or DCA/BWI http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
