In today's mail (I am Gold Preferred):

"US Airways is offering Double Dividend Miles for all paid flights flown now until May 15th. The double miles earned during this period will also count toward qualification for Preferred status. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Yup - from the same letter from the Marketing VP I bet. Reminds me of the letter they sent out in either the early '90s when the old USAir had an unfortunate series of accidents, and other bad publicity.

As many of us have commented elsewhere, the double miles count for status - meaning that if you go out to the West Coast on an e-saver, you're looking at an effective rate per mile of slightly more than .03. Not bad at all.

Just a side note;

I had my first flight during this period post today without the bonus. I called and asked and was told the bonus will take a couple more days to post.

So if you don't see your double miles immediately DON'T PANIC! <grin>

It feel's somewhat ridiculous that I flew <200 miles and will get 1750 miles in credit, of which 1000 is status miles but I'm not complaining!

P.S. I got the letter too, and so did my wife, and so did every other guy at DCA I spoke to... I guess USAirways still doesn't got this email communication thing down yet.

My credit from e-saver to LAX just posted too - and without the bonus as dg1 noted - it will be interesting when it all gets posted.

Had hoped that when I got bumped off of Sunday afternoon's flight from LAX (I volunteered) that they'd do what a gate agent did in SFO and LGA last time I was bumped and rebooked in First (actually listed in F, not G or A or anything else) - and thus got the full First Class mileage bonus. Alas, our agent (who will get a blistering review in the trip report once I get around to bashing it out) booked me in "A" class (for those who are unfamiliar - their transcon full coach which gets an automatic upgrade to First when available), thus losing the opportunity to see if I could get effectively quadruple status miles for one leg of the trip. Would have made it all worthwhile.

And on an unrelated note - US's LAX operation seems to be a bit of a mess with only 3 gates to accomodate a ton of aircraft at times (particularly all the evening arrivals - must be why I see at least 2-3 aircraft in US's hanger space when arriving 'round 11. We could go into the whole PSA thing, but life is short ...

Anybody have any idea when the official starting date for this promotion is? I flew PHL - CDG on 3/26 and hope this promotion started the day after the averted strike. I have six international segments booked between now and 5/15 and with the envoy class of service bonus will pick up 9,323 status miles with each leg!

PSU, I wish I knew. I flew Envoy from LGW-PHL on 3/26. I get the feeling the promo started on 3/27 though... that is the date the "press release" was posted to the US Airways web site. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

CLTFlyer posts:

>>>last time I was bumped and rebooked in First (actually listed in F, not G or A or anything else) - and thus got the full First Class mileage bonus.<<<

Actually, an A4COACH ticket gets the same bonus as an F class ticket. The only difference is the price.

>>>(for those who are unfamiliar - their transcon full coach which gets an automatic upgrade to First when available), thus losing the opportunity to see if I could get effectively quadruple status miles for one leg of the trip.<<<

Lost me here. The first class bonus does not qualify for status, nor does the Preferred bonus -- just the base miles (x2 until 5/15).

That's o.k. - sometimes I lose myself http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

You're right on the A class getting the bonus. I did receive the double miles for flying in A class - same way as it was for flying in F (not G).

What I meant (seem to be saying that a good bit these days) is that while you get double miles on all fares - and those double miles count for status and you've got the double class of service bonus already for F (and I seem to remember that as far as US goes, the class of service F bonus automatically counts for status miles too - at least it did last year) - does this promotion effectively double the double class of service bonus (I've already confused myself here - but the thinking is are they doubling the 4200 miles I'd get in A(flight miles + class of service))?

But, I think you're right, and I'll just get the original double for both and nothing extra for A class. We'll see what ends up posting to my account.

CLTFlyer-

I hashed this out a few days ago with a very nice lady at the service cntr - double miles only for base miles(inc 500 mile min) - not on class of service or status level bonus. Get this; Silver's being offered Gold w/12500 miles flown by 5/31. Double base bonus counts twds prfrrd lvl so if 6250 miles by 5/15 ya get the Gold.

actually, markg, for the promo for silvers to fly 12,500 miles by 5/31 to get gold, the "double mile" for status miles don't count... you have to fly 12,500 good old fashioned status miles (including the 500 mile min. per segment of course).

geo1004-

That is what I thought BUT...Hashed it out with the Service center - they hashed it out with a supervisor - who hashed it out with marketing - told me YUP, 6250 with the double bonus counts for 12500 and the promo. Being the trusting guy I am I got names and employee #'s etc..., even told the service rep I did not want to get her in trouble and she said no problemo, "marketing and my super approved it and I documented it" - so at posting time if they say "no way Markie" I will go down fighting like a real FF Trooper! Took about 1/2 hour or so but hey it beats working. I really need to get a hobby.

Well, at long last I have my answer. MarkG is right - double only on base. So, it works out that if you're in A or F class, you'll get triple miles (base+class of svc+bonus miles). Meaning that for one e-saver round trip from CLT to LAX, with inbound segment in A/F class (and outbound segment as upgraded coach, a/k/a G) managed to get 10,626 status miles (the promotional bonuses just posted). So, not quadruple, but triple status miles for the A segment, which ain't shabby. Lesson of the story, getting bumped after volunteering and being put in first on the red eye is sometimes not a bad thing (other than the lost sleep).

Great thing is with a business trip to PIT next week, and a short trip to YYZ 'round Easter, I'll meet the Gold Challenge (woo hoo! three day upgrade window). And if you're not targeted for the challenge - call the service center - they'll put you in.

Thanks MarkG for squaring all this away.

My wife is Silver Preferred; I called Chairman's Preferred desk and asked them. She said they knew about the promotion but told me that Consumer Affairs was running the show, not the Preferred desks. She told me that those targeted got more information about who to call.

I asked to be transferred to the Silver Desk and she said that wouldn't help, that I need to call Consumer Affairs who are closed on the weekend.

I'm not sure this coincides with what everyone has posted here. Can someone tell me what number they called to get signed up for the gold challenge? Regular Div Service Center? Silver? Gold? I have phone numbers for every center since I've been at each of those levels http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

My wife has over 11,000 status miles (before any of it being doubled) during the period so it would be nice if she could get Gold status.

I called the Silver Preferred desk and got the representative to put me in the hopper for the Gold Challenge. She noted I was currently only Silver, but did sign me up. Perhaps I was just persuasive, or was lucky that I got an agent who remembered me from a 1998 call I made (I don't call the service center much - so I was surprised).

Wish I could be of more help - good luck - your wife may want to make the call to the Silver desk next week and see what she can do.

Thanks CLTFlyer and Mark!

I'll call the Silver Preferred Desk tomorrow. This type of info shows how useful Webflyer is.

I just called the Silver Preferred desk for my wife and they did enroll her, but I asked about the double dividend miles. The agent told me no, they don't count. I asked Are you sure, because another agent told me they do (of course, they didn't, but I was pretending I was markg http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif) and she said yes I'm 100% sure.

Markg, can you send me that employee's name and employee number so I can verify that double dividend miles do count to the service center?

One snag is that they told me I have to call back when she reaches the needed level since it won't retro check flights and they need to manually verify she's flown the necessary flights.

I think I'm going to have do another esaver just to be safe, however... I also just realized I've been responding to the wrong topic -- to folks who are wondering how we wandered onto this subject, I meant to reply to: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum51/HTML/000194.html

I just added up her segments/miles through the period -- guess what, 14 segments 12255 miles. 2 segments, 275 miles short. ARGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Double miles would have put me over the top. Heck, if I had chosen a connection in PIT rather than CLT from CMH-TPA it would have put me over the top. <insert strain of profanities here>

dg1 -

I spoke w/a super again - sayz I caught them before they had all the info for double miles and silver to gold - I'm gonna have to write some letters - figure I have a 50/50 chance. US is not obligated so if I get it fine but if not no biggie - as geo1004 pointed out the silver to gold is miles flown. I don't want my "angel" to get any flack - there was some fiasco with a rep from sprint or mci whose e-mail was posted on the Buzz board - I'll keep ya informed in my struggle for unearned status - I may take a mileage run to sfo just to clinch it!

Angels? It's hard to have an angel when you are always being bounced around to different people and even worse different desks. I wish US would allow us to try an extension first before bouncing us around the system.

Thanks for the update. I too might have to squeeze in an e-saver or fly one of these "Why Drive When You Can Fly" e-savers to ensure the bump to Gold.
