Hello, at about 10pm EST 3/26, I am finding a lot of discounted fares through www.usairways.com. (http://www.usairways.com.) I haven't gotten any email nor do I see any notice of an official fare sale, but since I've seen it on every route I've looked at so far, I do believe this is the fabled get-the-passenger-back-after-the-strike fare sale.
So far prices look decent; not blockbuster, but pretty good. Cheapest fares are for travel between April 3 and May 3, but cheap fares seem to be available till June 15.
Again, this is just my unscientific opinion; we'll see soon enough if this really is a sale or I've just gotten lucky http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

US has already brought back the $69 weekend shuttle fares, IAD/DCA/LGW/BOS; I received an e-mail this afternoon, and it's also posted on http://www.usairways.com.
SALE FARE REQUIREMENTS: Fares are roundtrip for Coach travel on US Airways,
US Airways Shuttle or US Airways Express operated by Mesa Airlines.
Roundtrip
purchase required. Tickets become nonrefundable 24 hours after making an
initial
reservation, however changes may be made for a minimum $50 fee. Tickets must
be purchased at least one day prior to departure and within 24 hours of
making
reservations, but no later than 4/3/00. Travel applies on scheduled flights
all day Saturday and Sunday through 2:45 PM. All travel must be completed by
5/14/00. Fares do not include $2.50 federal excise tax, which will be
imposed
on each flight segment of your itinerary. A flight segment is defined as a
takeoff and a landing. Fares do not include $3-6 airport passenger facility
charges where applicable. Seats are limited or may be sold out during very
busy
travel times, or holiday periods. Other conditions may apply.

Understandably, they'll have to run something. I booked a couple of flights over the next several weeks. Looking at seat inventory, you could drive a truck through the cabins and not hit anyone. In addition to scaring folks off with the threatened shutdown, you can also bet the travel agents enjoyed moving bookings. There's a price to be paid for screwing what has been a main source of business for so many years. Every so often you need them.

The nice thing about the double miles is that they're elite-counting. There was an ad in USA Today this morning. Nothing in the ad, but in the small print - this was stated. Somewhat surprising - really.

I stand corrected, further down on the website is the same language saying it does count for status miles. Cool. Meaning, go to Europe, rack up 16k miles, or go out to the left coast and rack up 10k miles. Mileage runs become real easy with this promotion.

Double miles on every flight now through 5-15?! Looks like it applies to all paid travel and no registration of any kind is required. Sweet!!

Looks like a quick trip to the west coast for a weekend and a mileage run to FRA from DCA should toss me to Pref Gold for the rest of 2000 and through March of 2002 ... anyone want to do a mileage run??? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

What's missing are discount fares to Europe.

By the way, the only bad thing is that its possible that e-savers do not get double mileage. This is from the first part of the US press release:
ARLINGTON, Va., March 27, 2000 -- US Airways is offering customers Double Dividend Miles for all US Airways, US Airways Shuttle, US Airways Express and MetroJet flights taken through May 15, 2000. Miles can be redeemed for free travel to more than 550 destinations worldwide and bonus miles count toward Preferred Status.
As an added incentive, customers will receive 5,000 bonus Dividend Miles the first time that a reservation is made online and 1,000 bonus Dividend Miles thereafter, for tickets purchased roundtrip through usairways.com on US Airways, the US Airways Express carriers, US Airways Shuttle or MetroJet through June 30, 2000. This offer does not apply to tickets purchased through US Airways Vacations online or to US Airways' E-Savers program.
That last sentence is the problem - it's either the double miles don't apply to e-savers, or the bonus miles do not apply. Somewhere, an old English teacher of mine would say that this is just a poorly drafted release. If someone gets the word on this from US - let us all know.
There are some sale fares to Europe - but for the double miles, you've got to fly from 5/1/00 through 5/15/00. The Euro fares are only available 5/1/00 - 6/9/00
Nonetheless, double miles are available with no effort on our part other than being on a flight between now and May 15.

Clarification:
Double Div. Miles for ALL paid flights from 3/27 through 5/15. Bonus miles DO count for Preferred status.
Online booking bonus (5,000 first time, 1000 each time thereafter) has been around for a long time and the stipulations have not changed. The online booking bonus applies to all paid flights except e-savers and US Airways Vacations booked online. E-saver flights and US Airways Vacations flights will earn double miles but if you book online you will not get the online booking bonus.
US Airways is also running a fare sale... the dates of which differ depending on your destination. The availability of these fares does not affect the double miles bonus or the online booking bonus.

By the way, just spoke with the good folks at the Dividend Miles Service Center - e-savers will count as part of the double miles/status miles promotion.
