US Airways Dividend Miles (Pre-FlightFund Merger) - MetroJet to Abandon RDUView Full Version : MetroJet to Abandon RDU Sheryl Mar 22, 00, 9:22 pm There was a story in the 3/21/00 edition of the Raleigh-Durham newspaper that U.S. Airways MetroJet will cease operations at RDU in June. Any word from US? dg1 Mar 23, 00, 12:18 pm I've heard the same, apparently they need to put the planes on BOS-Florida routes. It's also probably because competing against Southwest lowered margins too much. WHY2K Mar 23, 00, 2:20 pm The RDU MetroJet change means the loss of 4 or 5 flights RDU-IAD and 1 RDU-BOS. UAL covers the RDU-IAD with twice that frequency and Midway has RDU-BOS well covered. Southwest had less effect on MJ since the only near competing route is Southwest's RDU-BWI. Since gates at RDU are in high demand there will be other flights added to fill that empty jetway. bodie Mar 28, 00, 10:31 pm Metro Jet left Buffalo about a year ago. They had 2 non-stops daily to Orlando. My source tells me that the loads were pretty good except that the airline could put the planes on flights that would bring in larger profits from other cities. |
