I'll be needing to fly from GSO or RDU to FUK (Fukuoka, Japan) next week, and want to fly on *A. Departure would be on November 1 or 2, return is from NRT on November 7.
I can fly UA metal all the way to either NRT or KIX, then connect on NH down to FUK. I'll by flying in Y, and don't have any SWUs so I probably won't be looking at an upgradeable fare. So primarily thinking about flying as a *G in Y, I'm weighing my options. I'm a big fan of the exit row 45A and K on the 747 on UA (or even if that's not available, at least E+). I'm probably planning on routing through SFO or LAX to take advantage of UDU for at least 1/3 of the trip or so.
I'm seeing options out of RDU as low as $1200 or so on UA metal, but I'm trying to figure out if there are any other *A options that would be better than UA E+. I need to keep the cost under around $1500-$1600. I'm honestly not too concerned with food, and I'm not too picky on service in Y (although admittedly not great, UA TPAC service has been just fine with me), I'm more concerned with the seats.
From what I've read, UA *G members do not have access to premium economy on NH, correct? Are there any *A carriers that have premium economy to which I will have access as a UA *G?
Also, are there any arrivals lounges with showers in NRT/KIX on the way over, or SFO/LAX/ORD/IAD on the way back, or any other major considerations that would affect my routing decision?
Thanks for any input!
