Well, it was with great joy (and surprise) that I heard the news that even we Silver Preferred folks would be getting some complimentary upgrades good to/from Europe. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Today, even though I've not received my Preferred Silver packet here in the Netherlands, I sucessfully managed to upgrade my return flight from CDG to PHL in May to seat 3B in Envoy on the new A330. Pretty sweet!! Now, I just have to wait for the package, which should arrive by May, I would hope. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

It was interesting when I phoned to upgrade. Since I didn't have the US Airways number here in the Netherlands handy, I had to phone the 800 number in the USA. It wasn't until much transferring and one disconnect that I finally got to speak to someone in International Reservations who could process the upgrade, and even he seemed unsure of what was going on. Anyhoo, it's done, and I'm happy, so long as the airline is running by then!

I've got a few questions, though:

1) Can I use the "systemwide upgrades" to upgrade a companion? Or, are they good for me and me only?

2) Are these systemwide ONE SEGMENT one way upgrades, or can I upgrade my entire CDG-PHL-SFO journey with this mighty certificate? (I've already upgraded the PHL-SFO, then SFO-PIT-ERI parts of my itinerary with a 20K mile domestic R/T upgrade award, but I wouldn't mind the prospect of saving the certificate.)

3) Although I didn't think to ask, can I use both of my one-class upgrades at once to upgrade from coach to first on the A330? Maybe that's pushing my luck, eh? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Of course, I'm referring to the certificates that they're giving Silver/Gold Preferred folks... Thanks!

Hey neighbor.
I just used the systemwide upgrades last night for flying from CMH to PHL and than on to Munich Germany all the way in First and than Envoy class. The new systemwide upgrades are the coolest thing since I fly this airline starting in 1992.So to answer your question you can upgrade all the way to your final destination Frisco and that in one of the best business class products I ever encountered. To your second question using two upgrades to go from coach to new First Class transatlantic is probablay not possible because the upgrades state good for one class of upgrade.
Greetings from a very happy Preferred Gold member.

I just received my Silver Preferred pack today. (Used to be Preferred Plus, but didn't fly enough last year). The Systemwide Upgrades indicate "This certificate may not be transferred but may be redeemed for one companion traveling with you."
So, like the other US Airways upgrades, you can use them with a companion.

DivMiler: Welcome to FlyerTalk. I too was PrefPlus last year and only Silver this year. Did you get a promotional offer to bump you back to Plus/Gold if you flew 12,500 miles or 16 segments between 3/1 and 5/31???
