Los Angeles - Parking for game at Rose Bowl (cost and safety)
We'll be in the L.A. area for a few days for a conference, and have tickets to attend the UCLA-Oregon State football game (I'm a UCLA alumnus, though have never been to the Rose Bowl, since back when I was a student they played in the Coliseum). Looking to avoid the chaos of parking right at the Rose Bowl, and have found a number of lots in Old Pasadena. The largest seem to be the "ParPark" (Parsons) lots, costing $12. There's a free shuttle to the Rose Bowl from there, run by the Rose Bowl operators. There are also other lots, including one near the Marriott on Raymond Avenue, across the street from Pasadena Memorial Park ($5) and another at One Colorado ($6).
Any experience with any of these and, if so, whether any are montored by security guards? We'll have our luggage in the trunk of the car (we'll be on our way from the Universal City Hilton, where the conference takes place, to a relative's place in Upland). We plan on leaving the game a bit early to (hopefully) escape some of the traffic, as well as crowds on the shuttle bus.

if you don't mind walking (about 2 km), park at the schoolhouse lot on green between fair oaks and raymond. $2/hour after the first 90 minutes. going underground tends to be easier than going up.
i'm not sure if guards monitor the lot, but traffic is regular during the day so it's not like an event lot where thousands of cars sit unattended for hours.
Thanks. I saw that lot on a map of parking lots in the area. I was thinking an open lot, such as Parsons, might be good since all cars would be visible, but your point about cars sitting unattended for hours is a good one. We will probably leave shortly after the third quarter, since we need to get out to my sister's in Upland, which will reduce the time the car sits by a bit. The game is Nov. 6.

There are any number of private residences who offer driveway parking; I wouldn't be at all concerned that somebody is going to break into your trunk at random. Just drive there and park wherever you can (but don't give up your keys). Enjoy the game!

As a former Pasadena resident, that is absolutely the best advice. In terms of safety, Pasadena is super safe. I would not worry about it. I have gone to dinner there many times with my laptop in the trunk and nothing ever happened to it. In fact, I don't even know anyone who has experienced crime for the 7 years that I lived there.

We eneded up parking at the main, open Parsons Lot for $12. Easy to get to from, and back to, I-210. Lots of shuttle busses available each way. We stayed until the very end of the game (since it was a tie game until literally the last second, when UCLA won on a field goal), and as soon as we left got right onto a bus (had to stand, but no biggie), got fairly quickly to the lot, and were on the freeway, and on our way, within several minutes. Traffic wasn't bad on the freeway, either. Worked out well.
