CGT Air France, the largest AF union (19% of votes) has called for a strike of all AF personnel on Wednesday 20 October to protest against the government's pensions reform bill (AFP). AF has declined to comment on the potential impact so far but this should be watched carefully by anyone planning to travel on that date. The union is also calling for all other airport-related personnel to join the strike and said they reserved the right to call for airports blocade although they do not call for such action at this stage.

Unless I am mistaken, CGT is not well represented in air crews, who have their own unions, such as SNPL (Syndicat National des Pilotes de Ligne), the largest pilot union. This would probably have more impact on the staff on the ground.

You're right - the PNT have completely different unions, the PNC have a mix of 'regular' and specific unions though - overall, the CGT won 31.9% of the total AF personnel vote in the last (May 2010) elections to the AF conseil d'administration (http://sudroissyescale.over-blog.com/article-resultats-des-elections-au-conseil-d-administration-du-groupe-air-france-mai-2010-52128399.html) so they have the power to create some problems. They also claim to have already discussed with the other AF unions to try and generalise the strike, and also with representatives of airport personnels from other categories such as the people in charge of security at CDG.
Any update on this? I'll be flying JFK-CDG on the 20th Oct... Thanks once again!

No further news. I think AF will have by now cancelled any flights they think they cannot run...

Airport staff from CGT and SUD-Aérien will probably attempt to delay departing passengers arriving by car or public transport at various airports in France. This is currently the case at TLS.

Latest update: major delays currently affecting the following airports:
CDG
ORY
LYS
MRS
CFE
TLS
NTE
BES
MPL
TLN
BIQ
And to lesser extents
BOD
PUF
PS: Note: I'm trying to update the list regularly while I can but note that by now, with the complex system of rotation operated by most AF planes, almost any flight is potentially affected (especially short and medium haul).
