Oceania (Australia, New Zealand & the South Pacific) - melbourne/12 apostlesView Full Version : melbourne/12 apostles met19 Oct 16, 10, 7:36 pm Are there any 1-2 tours of melbourne that include the 12 apostles? We need to either rent a car, a driver. or take a tour. Even if you take a whole day tour on the Great Ocean Road, you will see the Twelve Apostles, but you will only see a small portion of the ocean road. The city of Melbourne is very nice with lots to do in town, and St Kilda and the beach, federation square and the musuems. Other recommendations Healsville Sanctuary for wildlife, and would highly recommend Port Phillip Island for the fairy penguins at sunset. Let me know if this is what you were looking for. Several tour bus companies run day trips (the are only about 9 now as several have fallen down in the last 5 years) met19 Oct 17, 10, 11:51 am Twelve apostles is part of the great ocean road - If I remember correctly (we did this several years ago) its a couple of hours outside of melbourne. I'm spending a month in Australia- mostly Syd for work, but plan to take weekend trips to Uluru, Port Douglas (Cape tribulation/daintree/gbr) and Melbourne or Canberra. The great ocean road and the 12 apostles are a long day trip from Melboune. Several tour bus companies run day trips (the are only about 9 now as several have fallen down in the last 5 years) so I guess I should see them this trip as they might not be here in a couple years. Thanks for the info. Will look for a tour- I hope. worldiswide Oct 17, 10, 12:23 pm Glad to assist. Fairy penguins are smaller than what you see in Antartica and the like, but they are in the water looking for food during the day and then come out to their homes (holes, burrows) and night Its quite a sight. Lots to do in Cairns and environs for several weekends over your time. Port Douglas, a trip to the reef on quick silver or the like, daintree and cape tribulation is a fun day, and there is also kuranda and tjubaki aboriginal cultural park. We also went to see a coffee plantation near cairns (jakes coffee) coffee was excellent, as well as a little tour and they also had a ultralight plane that you could have a ride over the area on. I have to say weve been to Austalia six times and not made it to Uluru because the cost and distance is so high and it is a very very captive market, so it neve made the list. We saw it from the air last time, and it worked for us, but to each his own. Orlando Vic Oct 17, 10, 1:23 pm APT http://www.aptouring.com.au/content.asp?Document_ID=105942 has some good day tours from Melbourne including a (long) 1-day Great Ocean Road tour that includes the 12 Apostles. Another includes the penguin parade at Philip Island. They pick up and drop off at your hotel. met19 Oct 17, 10, 7:06 pm thanks for everyones assistance yosithezet Oct 22, 10, 4:00 am There are only 8.5 apostles left. Better hurry! |
