If I gain points in the UK can I use these in the US? From the info provided by BW it looks like they can only be used in the UK which would be crap if true.

Yes, there is. Go to the Bestwestern.com site, and check the Double Rewards promotion. Actually it could be triple, if you make the reservation through the site. If you sign up for BW promotional e-mails, you will get fresh info every month. OR you can visit this flyertalk thread, where many promotion posted.

I earned points in the US, Europe, Asia, and spent points in the US, Europe, Asia. I have never heard about this kind of limitation you mentioned.

You should be able to use the points in any country. Not sure if they do free night promos in Europe, but there was a free night voucher with every 2 stays this summer and the voucher for the free night is only good in canada and US properties, but was still a graet deal. I recently used the site to see if I could use points at a property in spain and I live in the US and it brought up properties. You just go to the reservation screen and click the "search using points screen" IMO best western is one of the easiest sites to use when searching for rooms with points.

Best western does have promos but most of them aren't nearly as generous as the competition hotels.
