Hi all,

Anyone got any experience of Kosher breakfast meal on domestic UA in First?

I'm talking specifically on p.s service (LAX-JFK) though as I understood it when it comes to SPMLs there is no difference between normal and p.s.

Here's an older post:

Okay sorry this is so late but but I think still worth reporting.

UA SFO-ORD UA134 Depart 8:30 AM arrive 3:00 PM
Sept 26,2009
New Config (yeah)
Breakfast flight for everyone else Kosher for me^

Meal consisted of the following:
Roll with butter
Bowl of fruit mellon and pineapple (very tasty)
Apple Strudel - also very yummy
Hot beef short rib with a mushroom sauce, green beens (not so tasty) and cous cous.

It was a large amount of food that overall tasted good, and was filling.

I got to say I love it when several people around me go, can I get what he has, I don't like fruit plate.

I usually fly UA p.s. in Biz I order KSML and have never eaten the breakfast! its usually a very had roll, a few pieces of Frozen fruit cocktail and the entree is 3 1/2 slices of french toast = Not IMO worth the hassle to go wash for it Roll is HaMotzei

UA uses KoshAir (I believe the old Wilton company) and 95% of the time the food is AWEFUL Ive asked them countless times to go with Regal or Weiss or MealMart but they still serve me KoshAir, I never was served KoshAir on any other Carrier

If you are lucky they wont have it on board and you will end up asking for and getting a Customer Appreciation card which can be worth alot more then the meal, $150-250 ecert off your next flight, 9k-20 RDMs, or 10-20% off any tkt (the ecert is for domestic flights only UA allows you to chose what you get).

I LOVE it when the meal ends up not getting boarded!

Thanks guys, sound pretty dire I must say.

I don't think I fancy beef short rib with a mushroom sauce at 8:30am and the French toast doesn't sound much better.

I LOVE it when the meal ends up not getting boarded! So what's your success rate on this one? ;)

That's the standard with UA? Maybe they can teach the CO guys something. I just flew EWR-MUC on CO in BF. They had no meal for me. They gave me 2,500 onepass miles as compensation !?

unfortuately not as good as i would like it to be, but Ive scored it numerous times. You can always call UA CS and tell them how the breakfast was etible and being in FC will most likely score you something

had some ceral in the RCC Sun morn which held me over till lunch on my LAX-HNL flight which was the usual grilled chickhen with watery poyatoes and canned peas & carrots, a roll that was frozen hard and HaMotzei and a canned slice of peach and pear for desert, with some very good kosher vendors in the mkt theres no excuse for this crap being served.

but its better then nothing at all

wih CO i usually simply was told we arent in the food business and got you from pt a to pt b and got Notting

the problem is what will the new companys policy be = will UAs or COs CS dept be the one remaining standing

I'm not sure it is better than having nothing at all..... If one takes one's own snacks then at least one knows what one will get.

I'm sure I've posted a rant here before about AA not doing any special meals - even in First - for any domestic US flights, except transcontinentals. The "rationale" being that they're the longest domestic flights. But they aren't - mine are usually to/from HNL and longer than the transcons.

All the US domestic services are rubbish (except perhaps for stuff like ps) when compared to a half decent "proper" airline. So I assume that I eat what I take with me. Difficult when one is, say, connecting in SFO ex LHR to HNL - one can't bring stuff from the UK, but one can usually "liberate" stuff from the lounge with an (U) or get some fruit from the airport.

On a LHR-LAX-HNL trip (on AA) earlier this year the purser on my LHR-LAX flight was horrified to hear that I wouldn't get a KSML (in F/C) the following morning. When I boarded the LAX-HNL flight the next day the Purser said "Ah, you must be Mr FF" (dunno how she knew my FlyerTalk handle) and said that the other Purser had found out which flight I was on, figured out who the Purser was and called her to tell her to go to a Kosher deli and buy me a sandwich / salad. That's amazing service and I wrote to AA to congratulate them both. I didn't mention to them that she'd been to a "kosher style" deli and what she bought was 100 per cent treif..... It was very embarrassing on board as she'd been to all that trouble and I couldn't any of it - but no choice in the matter. I think she understood the problem and as we figured out that both of the Pursers were on my return HNL-LAX flight a few days later I was able to buy them both nice boxes of chocolates.

Can someone explain to me why the Kosher meal that rkaradi was served had both a roll with butter (dairy) and beef (meat). That's one of the basic no-no's in kashrut!

Also, why would the breakfast service include ribs? That sounds like a lunch or dinner (depending on where in the world you're from,) but certainly not breakfast!

I had the same experience with United in business, on PS and on first lax-ord, both were the same brkfst, the french toast. Call me crazy, but I happened to love the French Toast much more so than omlett, I have had on board an airplane

1- Id bet it wasnt actually Butter but Margarine

2- as for meat in the morn could be that the caterer messed up teh entree or was out of a KSML Bfkst and so gave them whatever it was they had in stock

I recently heard (from a reliable inside source in the Kosher industry) that the Kosher food contract for UA was just up for renewal. The renewal was about to go through with the same supplier when it got pulled back and was send back for rebidding as a result of the UA/CO merger. So there is hope:).

OTOH, I was told that his price quote was nearly 1/6 of what Hermolis would charge (you wonder why??;))

Ive spent countless hours with both UA & CO on this.

Why CO cause I let them know that if they end up serving the Slop that UA does they can kiss TLV goodbye as once word gets out most people will turn to anyone else. And TLV is COs most profitable route.

cant see them going with 2 caterers so I was hoping CO would let UA hear that you always cant look to save every cent and no sense killing the Goose that has been laying Golden eggs for yrs for CO = TLV

I hope you are right , although I will miss KoshAirs apple studel, about the only thing I eat on that tray

And UA definitely still does? Or does it depend on the routing?

UA does. And you just said UA definitely, and then added a question mark. Found that interesting. Sorry, just an observation :D

The Koshair foos is disgustiing and is usually not fresh, but some ols stale roll Etc.

The food is also under the supervision of the OU, so is useless for soebody who eats only Glatt kosher :(

I agree that the food is generally Disgusting and isnt Halav Yisroel and is under the OU but it does say OU Glatt. Now if a person doesnt hold by the OU that is something else

Air Canada recently switched to a caterer by the name of Hamasbia, and their meals in J on LAX~YYZ were quite good. I also had them in J on YYZ~CDG this week, and it wal almost as good as Hermolis!

What was strange about that?

It was a question written in a clarification format. I was asking if UA definitely still does.
Thanks for the response though. Much appreciated!
