San Francisco - Strange (Possible emergency) Landing at SFO 10/7 around 16:15

Did anyone see a large dark colored twin turboprop make an odd low circle almost just before the beginining of 28L and R and then make a very quick sharp descent before landing? The angle of descent was so steep it frightened me. I live right there and go walking the Bay trail several times a week and this was not normal. Trying to sift through flightaware right now. The whole scene was not normal.

I'll move to our Travel->San Francisco forum for discussion. Also, the Blue Angels are working in the area and possibly other Fleet Week ops; so maybe what you saw was related to that??? Ocn Vw 1K, Moderator, TravelBuzz.

I thought those guys all landed and took off from Moffet, not SFO?

If you liked that descent, just wait for the JATO departure...that would be my guess as in addition to the 2 practice flights by the blue angels yesterday, fat albert was doing low slow passes over the city (and over my house at just 200 feet!)

Many years ago, a doctor friend of my family flew a small prop plane into ORD. As the story goes, the controllers first asked him if he was crazy, and after determining that he was, in fact, crazy (i.e., he was planning to land at O'Hare), they had him circle the tower until there was a break in the jet traffic, at which point they told him to get the plane down onto the runway, which he did.

Not quite a C-130, but I like the image of him circling the tower in some sort of Cessna, waiting for a pause in the long lines of approaching jets.
