Tonight the Travel Channel broadcasts the Chicago pizza war episode: Malnati's vs, Unos at 10 p.m. EST.

I'm rooting for Malnati's :)

It's been so long since I had Uno's...Malnati's is good but I don't care for their butter crust thing.

You don't get buttercrust unless you request it.

Should be interesting contest. I still think Uno's is the best when it's on, but Malnati's is the most consistent. I presume they will each have their best pizza chef on it. :)

Agreed 100%!

I still like Pizano's over both.

I like their thin crust better. Interestingly, their thin crust and their deep dish are exactly alike except they build the outer edges higher on the latter. Same sauce, same everything. Go for the thin crust and pay less. :)

Additionally, Pizano's is over priced in comparison.

I never order the buttercrust either.

A clean sweep (all three judges) voted for Lou's.*grins*

Love Lou's tomatoes, and I have never forgiven Uno's for their mediocre national franchise.....:)

not a Pizano's fanLove Lou's tomatoes, and I have never forgiven Uno's for their mediocre national franchise.....:)
I had a nephew come into town a couple weekends ago. They wanted deep dish so I suggested Uno's as they were staying right near there. The comment back was they'd like to try someplace different as they have Uno's in Cincinnati. I just cringe anytime I hear about or see anyone eating at an Uno's franchise.

What's weird is that they won't admit it's "tomatoes." (I swear it's just canned tomatoes with the juice poured off.) They call it "tomato sauce."

When I remember, always order extra tomatoes. And they lamely say, "Fresh tomatoes?" And I'll say, "No, the regular tomatoes." And they say, "Oh, you want extra sauce." Finally, I gave up. Now I just order extra tomato sauce.

But, it makes the pizza just about perfect. :)

Could not agree more. It's a long story but several years ago we ended at an Uno's on M Street in DC. It was very ordinary and have not been to an Uno's anywhere since.
I think Malnati's is very good.

I have a friend who works there, and you are correct. Also, the amount of juice poured off varies, which is why you occasionally get a slightly soggy pizza from them. Still better than Unos, though not as good as the Connie's flagship on Archer.

Still better than Unos, though not as good as the Connie's flagship on Archer. Is Connie's a deep dish stuffed pizza or is it deep dish? (can't recall as I haven't had one for years, I've always thought Connie's was lame)

IIRC, you can get whatever you want - thin and crispy, middleweight, deep dish or stuffed. "Jack of all trades, master of none comes to mind." It's really awful when it's delivered. Never been to Archer, so can't comment on that. A long time ago, they used to have a place at Clark and Fullerton (Emilio's Tapas location) and later across from Wrigley Field. Their deep dish was quite good.

I'm a Lou's guy and actually enjoy their thin crust with onions. It's very different from any other thin crust pizza I've ever had.

I like Lou's because it isn't quite as sloppy as some of the other deep dishes. It's probably in the way that they layer the pie.

I grew up eating Chicago-style pizza ... which is thin crust ... and I enjoy Lou's version of it more than I like the tourist-centric deep-dish pies peddled by Uno and Due. Deep dish is for tourists. I'm happy so many tourists visit our fair city, but don't particularly enjoy their clammoring for the deep dish stuff. Whatever style you like - have fun eating it!

I've never understood this. Uno (and Due) were a Chicago classic. Then some idiot rolled out a national Franchise that doesn't serve anywhere near the same product. Why would you do that!

I grew up eating Chicago-style pizza ... which is thin crust ..I think most Chicagoans that I know grew up on thin crust cut into squares, myself included.Deep dish is for tourists.really? Deep dish was reserved for outings in the Loop for our family, today I choose deep dish for a change of dining experience Whatever style you like - have fun eating it!amen
