WestJet Rewards - Question About Pilot Announcements?

Took a WS flight back from Mexico Friday night - very windy flying into Toronto and an extremely bumpy landing. Almost as if the pilot was short of the runway and had to speed up at the last moment.

Upon reflection, it occurred to me that not once during the flight did anyone from the "flight deck" make any announcements.

Of course we had the requisite and friendly cabin crew who made a few announcements as per usual.

That said, I think it was the first time I can recall not having heard from the captain or first officer. I'm assuming this isn't a mandatory part of the flight but just found it a little odd. Wonder if this happens very often.

Given the rough landing, no one was greeting passengers no their way out. It struck me as Westjet seems to always go that extra mile. Not that I was angry but just wondered about the standard protocol.

Appreciate any insights fellow FT'ers have on this one.

Can't say anything about the pilot announcements but I can comment on the wind. Drove west from Toronto in a modertaly loaded truck about 2am. Truck is set to 100jmh max, but usually coasts up to 105-108 going downhill. Would only go about 98 max and barely above 100 downhill. I can imagine the landings, especially if they were slightly off center to the wind.
