I had hoped to tag this on to the end of one of the threads about the new concessions at LAX that we're supposed to see any day now. But there are quite a few such threads about very specific establishments. So I decided to start one about why we really haven't seen much in the way of new concessions at LAX, despite the airport badly needing such improvements.

Steve Lopez' column in today's Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-0915-lopez-20100915,0,6204973.column) paints a pretty good picture of the deadlock that is holding the airport hostage. I have to say that I agree with Ms. Silverton: "Why can't they just get it done?"

The answer is that there is a battle over whose allies will get the spoils of ripping off captive LAX travelers with overpriced food and supplies. As OPs referenced article indicates.

It would be nice to get some decent, decently priced local places in LAX. The famous Randy's doughnuts comes to mind. When I asked the boss there if he would like to go in LAX he said sure, but, the politics were just too much for him.

Meanwhile, I hit Randy's on my way to LAX. Try the cream filled Long John. @:-)
