Looking for a place to stay in DC, that is close to the MALL and or metro. Not wanting to spend too much on a room, since I only plan on sleeping in it.
Thanks

Washington D.C. (including Baltimore) - A decent place to stay in DCView Full Version : A decent place to stay in DC FlightNurse Sep 12, 10, 11:48 pm Looking for a place to stay in DC, that is close to the MALL and or metro. Without knowing more details it's hard to be specific. Overall, hotels in DC ain't cheap, so perhaps trying your luck on Priceline would be worth a shot. The couple of hotels that come to mind as being a close walk to the mall will be rather expensive - JW Marriott on 14th St for one. However, taking the Metro to the Smithsonian station will get you to the Mall easily. Hotels in Northern Virginia might be a bit less expensive and there are numerous hotels in Arlington at the Crystal City station. The Rosslyn area is also very close in and there are a few places over there. If you want to stay in the city, there's a lot around the Dupont Circle station as well. Bethesda is a nice area also on the Metro, but the Maryland suburbs are much further from the Mall. AlanInDC Sep 13, 10, 6:43 am Yes, it would help to quantify "not too much." There is a Days Inn in the Van Ness/University of the District of Columbia area. Only a few blocks from the Van Ness (red line) metro station. My office puts people at Carlyle Suites in the Dupont Circle area. It is a nice art deco hotel with kitchens in the rooms. Not too expensive as far as DC hotels are concerned and it is in an interesting walkable area. Maybe 4 blocks to the Dupont Circle (red line) metro station. TBD Sep 13, 10, 6:55 am I'm a fan of the Hilton Embassy Row. It is right next to Dupont Circle, so it may be a bit expensive. Runner up is the Hilton Garden Inn at Arlington Courthouse. It is a bit outside the city, but pretty nice & very close to a Metro station. Letitride3c Sep 13, 10, 10:58 am Is it for a weekend, mid-week stay? and, for 1 or 2 or 3 nights - or longer ? Across the Potomac River from DC, there are some "nice" ones with "decent" rates & weekend specials, with easy Metro (subway) access into the Mall/downtown - some w. free shuttle services to the stations, i.e. check out places like Alexandria, VA and/or follow the DCA metro line & see what's offered (i.e. Holiday Inns @ Crystal City, VA) magiciansampras Sep 13, 10, 8:59 pm There's a real shady joint in Courthouse on Route 50, can't recall the name. Also Hotel Americana in Crystal City is equally crappy. bitburgr Sep 15, 10, 10:47 am How about the Holiday Inn - Capital? I've never stayed but have had breakfast meetings there (back when I worked in the area). I've seen lots of happy families coming and going. It's near L'Enfant Plaza so just a couple blocks south of the Mall. ITRADE Sep 25, 10, 9:35 pm I'm a fan of the Hilton Embassy Row. It is right next to Dupont Circle, so it may be a bit expensive. Try the Westin in Ballston or the Hilton which is literally on top of the Metro in Ballston. |
