I can tell you that you will have to have documentation of rabies vaccine. They should also be treated for fleas, ticks, and tapeworm 24 hours prior to your departure and you should have documentation of this. They should be microchipped with microchips that meet EU standards (can be read by EU machines). Once you are in the EU, you can go to a vet there and get an EU pet passport - this will make EU travel with your pets much easier. My experience is traveling with cats within the EU. It is much easier than I had expected. angelaplynn Jun 12, 11, 12:28 am If you want to fly with your pet there's just so many things that you need to ready just like the documents or papers of your pet plus some medical records. It's not hard to provide if you have records with you. eturowski Jun 14, 11, 7:39 pm Here is a link from APHIS, for reference: http://www.aphis.usda.gov/regulations/vs/iregs/animals/animal_germany.shtml It is generally advised that the APHIS site be used as a guideline only; for absolute requirements, it is best to contact the destination country directly. Here is Germany's list of animal import requirements (I think this is official, but I don't speak German, so I am not sure): http://www.zoll.de/english_version/faq/a0_passenger_traffic/d0_pets/index.html Most veterinarians will say it is the responsibility of the client to make sure all of the import/export requirements are met. Also, be forewarned that this is a time-consuming and expensive process (and some veterinarians will charge accordingly for their time if you don't do your homework)! You should allow six months before the travel date to prepare. Notable points for Germany: 1) The dog must not be a "bully breed", unless it will be in the country for less than four weeks or it is a service animal. 2) This form (http://www.aphis.usda.gov/regulations/vs/iregs/animals/downloads/ge_cn_hc_fill_non.docx) must be completed by your veterinarian, but I am not sure if s/he is required to be "federally accredited" (as is the case with US health certificates) or just state-licensed. 3) Your dog must be microchipped with an EU-approved microchip before it is vaccinated for rabies. If your dog is already microchipped with an unapproved chip, it needs to be re-chipped with an approved microchip and then vaccinated. (applies to the entire EU) |
