I probably should have looked into this sooner, but I didn't. Is there any way to transfer between terminals 1 and 2 at RDU without clearing security?

I'm doing a MR on Saturday flying on US, and so is a friend of mine flying on AA. We just assumed we'd be able to meet up, since we'll be there at the same time, but I just checked the terminal map, and discovered the two terminals.

I have about 3 hours, so I could possibly exit security and get over to the other terminal. But he has just 45 min, so I wouldn't want to get into him exiting security and having to re-clear. I highly doubt I can get a gate pass, unless someone here has any connections.

Any suggestions? Or just chalk this one up as a lost cause.

There are 2 terminals, but they are small and security is usually no issue. You are correct, both of you will need to clear security a second time to meet up. If your friend on AA has only 45 minutes, it's probably a lost cause. You won't be able to clear security in the AA terminal on a US boarding pass, so you would both need time enough to come outside the secure area. Plus AA's gates are the furtherest from security.

well I guess playing stupid and a little Southern charm did the trick. after my US CLT-RDU flight arrived, I chatted with the US gate agents. One (a guy) said not to bother, I wouldn't get into the AA terminal. A woman though said to give it a shot.

I just walked over between terminals, through the parking garage. Went to the AA counter, and presented my case to a very nice woman. She asked for my ID and gave me a gate pass. When I mentioned that oyster bar, a huge conversation got started among all the AA workers, "try the bisque." Anyway, I did get in a quick visit.
