I'm thinking of switching over to BW since BW offers status match. I'm also thinking of getting the BW MBNA Canadian mastercard.
1. Does BW offer Platinum status based on my Hhonors Gold for status match?
2. My Hhonors Gold status is valid til April 2011, does BW recognize this in the
status match?
2. Does BW offer Elite benefits on award stays?
3. If I spend $6000 on MBNA mastercard in the 1st year, can I use the elite
status upgrade to Diamond?

1. Probably.
2. The timing of the status match at BW is independent of when your status expires at HHonors. It's only the level BW matches, byt BW comes up with an expiration date independently.
3. Minimal. Room upgrades tend to be very rare. But there are new small elite benefits being phased in (at least at some BWs) like a bottle of water on arrival and a snack (so no worse than Hampton, eh?).
4. I'm not familiar with the MBNA mastercard, but if it doesn't say you get an upgrade to Diamond, you don't. All those credit card upgrades are always what they say, not an additinal upgrade for a status level you earn otherwise. They are simply an alternate way to get status, not a way to get additional status.
Having said that, BW Diamond only gives you a bit more bonus points (on points-earning stays). Not much extra in the way of benefits over BW Platinum. Nothing extra necessarily on miles-earning stays or on reward stays...

1.Yeah, I think they would definitely match the status but dunno to which elite level they would match to.
2. It should'nt matter when it is valid upto for a status match
3. Elite benefits...hmm.....probably room upgrades if the property has any different rooms other than the standard one's!
4. I aint sure about that credit card.

I am diamond with both hilton and BW and there is no comparison at all, Hilton is definitely a lot better.
I would stick with hilton unless BW has better locations or the price is a lot lower. You don't get nearly as many bonus points as you did with hilton and it's your choice of airline miles OR points. If you are going with airline miles then there is really no benefit at all to being premium with BW IMO.
If the BW property doesn't have free breakfast you aren't going to get it like you do at hilton. Hilton is now also offering free internet.
If you are able to get enough stays in to be diamond with HIlton, stay with Hilton for sure. The diamond force is a GREAT benefit if you ever need it and the promo right now for diamonds for a free night for every 10 paid nights is a really nice benefit that has me wanting to stay exclusively at hilton through the end of the year.

A little OT but...is it just me, or are there a lot of folks who are HH D and BW D?

Yes. If you are diamond with Hilton (or any other chain) BW automatically matches the status now.
There is a BW property I love in Chicago thought, but for other North America stays prefer hilton. I find their program to be a lot better, especially now that you get hilton points PLUS double airline miles and the diamond force benefit.
For Europe travel I prefer BW.
