bmi diamond club - Where is it easier to use an iGUV?

I'm planning a trip to either CAI or BEY later in the year and will end up on BD on the way home. Having looked at ANA for flights next week (I know it's only a small sample but better than nothing), it appears that reward availability is better on the BEY-LHR flight than the CAI-LHR flight. This would mean that I could use an iGUV if there is a reward seat available (correct?). Is my brief search correct that it is easier to use iGUVs on BEY-LHR than CAI-LHR?

Any insight would be most welcome.

Cheers!

iGUVs are only applicable to upgrade paid revenue fares.

Good news though is that you don't need one : as a BD*G, you, and a travelling companion, get a complimentary upgrade from economy to business when redeeming on a bmi flight.

Sorry should have made myself clearer. I'll be booking a paid economy ticket and wanting to use an iGUV. I only checked ANA to see whether reward seats are available next week as iGUVs book into reward inventory. I assume this is the same inventory as I'd see on ANA. I only looked for next week to see which route would be better if I were hypothetically flying next Tuesday. According to ANA, BEY has business availability but CAI doesn't so I'm trying to work out whether this is a regular pattern or just a one-off. Hope I've explained better now!

Yep :)

ANA shows "I" class availability when displaying awards in business class, and it's "I" class that needs to be available for you to use the iGUV.

Cool. Thanks for that info. Now does anyone know if CAI-LHR or BEY-LHR are easier routes to upgrade on?

I have no experience but I always thought that BEY was pretty premium heavy and as such more difficult to get upgraded on. However if you fly on the days where there are 2 flights you will have a better chance.

Thanks for the reply Jetstreamer. I guess I'll just have to take a chance based on which flight works out cheaper in the end. I'd still appreciate any more insight that anyone may have though :)

I would say BEY these days are quite easy to upgrade, because for some reason about 3-4 days before the flights all seats left in Business (C, D, J) are released for I class too.

Hmmmm.........interesting. Thanks for the info! I wonder if that's going to be a standard policy from now on (it would be a very sensible one imo) and whether it would also apply to the CAI flight. Anybody got any insight on that one?

Thanks again for all the information. Very much appreciated :)

There is no guarantee on either route. Just make up your mind on a route and enter the iGUV lottery on the week that you fly. No amount of feedback or advice from FT will make the seats any more or less available - both routes appear to be much of a muchness.

I realise there's no guarantee and that it's a complete lottery but I was wondering whether someone with any experience could tell me how easy they are to use on both routes so I can consider this when planning. It'll probably ultimately come down to which route is the best value for money but any advice is gratefully received. Thanks :)

For example my flight today was full except for 3 seats (in C). The flight showed as C3 D3 J3 I3.
