Singapore - Pan Pacific Hotel - not sure about quality

Hello everyone

As I'm having an upcoming business visit to Singapore, I've added a few days beforehand there. As I didn't wanted to stay in the same hotel as company always books me to explore some other hotel (Even though the Mandarin is very good and wasn't expensive, and yes, I know they aren't very far from each other) I've booked at the Pan Pacific Singapore, as it was rated #1 on tripadvisor.

Having read some recent reviews now (booked some time ago already), some said it was "worn down" a bit, and service was really low, like they had to wait at check in for much too long, that it wasn't true 5 star, and so on..

So.. what are more recent experience about this supposed to be 5 star hotel? As I've already booked, there isn't a way back anyway, but maybe to help enjoying the stay (non-refundable rate)

Oh, and if it didn't said "breakfast included" but rather nothing, this means that breakfast is NOT included I assume? I've had some hotels where it didn't say anything about breakfast and it was included nevertheless, but I assume in this property this isn't the case?

Anything else to take care off? I doubt they offer any kind of "pick up" service from airport or some other "special" services? (I've just booked 3 nights @ standard rate online)

Last but not least, how much should I pay the bellboy if he brings up luggage? I've never had heavy luggage before when travelling to SIN before, but this time I won't mind using that service.

Thank you SIN experts a lot for your help in advance - if anyone wants, I can give out a round of good German beer in a Beergarden, as I know they've there :D

I'll take you up on the beer :D sadly I can't help, since I have the same questions I believe that we'll be staying there anyway (I might try to swing the IC). Any reviews?

It's not the best hotel in Singapore, and the building itself is quite old, but it's been refurbished quite recently and is in fairly decent shape. The rooms facing out to Marina Bay also have some of the best views in Singapore.

Yes.

Around S$2/bag, round up if you're feeling generous.

Pan Pacific isn't the best in Singapore but it's a pretty good hotel, nevertheless. It is located in the convention centre area. There are 2 shopping malls linked to it, the Marina Square and the Suntec City Mall.....lots of shops, restaurants, food courts and the usual fast food joints. In fact, besides the Pan Pacific there are the 4 other great hotels located at Marina Square, The Mandarin Oriental, The Marina Mandarin, Conrad Centennial and the Ritz Carlton Millenia (they called themselves Singapore's 6-star hotel)....how could you go wrong with your choice?

No breakfast buffet included? No worries, food is the least concern here in Singapore, there are plenty of varieties to choose from. You won't want to eat the same hotel breakfast buffet once you wander out of your hotel.

You won't be needing any pickup from the airport as taxi are readily available at the airport and waiting time is no more than 5 mins in most situations. The ride from Changi Airport to Pan Pacific is a straight route on the highway and you should be in your hotel in less than 30 minutes. The cost is about $20 to $25 singapore dollars.

I think the Pan Pacific is fine and it generally tends to be a good value. If I am paying for my own hotel I often stay there.

I've stayed at the Pan Pacific (last week), the Marina Mandarin and the Crown Plaza. The Pan Pacific was fantastic. Clean modern room, excellent staff and awesome view from the 31st floor facing the Sands! There are plenty of places to eat in the area and at the mall.

Taxi was about S$14 from the airport.
