No, I'm not talking about halachic dateline and the issue of possibly keeping 1.5day shabbat. We're just back from a holiday in Japan, and to our surprise we found hotels we stayed all had those super high-tech toilet seats with shower/bidet. Every time you put your tushe down, some motion sensor is activated and adjust "the showerhead" and you'll hear swishing sounds.

The challenge is, there is no way you can turn it off! We've asked the hotel staff who were quite clueless why this is an issue, and little did we suspect we would have an issue of not being able to use a loo for shabbat duration.

I'm sharing this, just so that other shomer shabbat fellow travellers may be aware, or if anyone figured out how to solve this. Admittedly nothing too serious but still quite bothersome.

The Westin Moana Surfrider in HNL has these toilets.

We were worried at first until we saw that they were simply plugged in the wall :p

The bigger issue there is that the staircases all have light sensors
